# No.
He means caesium.
(, Thu 2 Aug 2007, 10:34, archived)
# No no no
Caesium is the CORRECT spelling. And it isn't Aluminum. It's Aluminium. Transparent, or otherwise.
(, Thu 2 Aug 2007, 10:35, archived)
# it used to be aluminum, but the europeans changed it
the yanks didn't adopt the new spelling
(, Thu 2 Aug 2007, 10:37, archived)
# Other way around.
It was first called Aluminum by Davy and later changed to conform with other elements ending in 'ium' ( something to do with Greek I think ).
European usage is still 'ium' whilst the Shermans insist on 'um'. Both are correct.
(, Thu 2 Aug 2007, 10:41, archived)
# My science and technology dictionary
defines aluminum thus: "See aluminium."

Conclusive proof that although both are correct, aluminium is correcter.
(, Thu 2 Aug 2007, 10:47, archived)
# True
But it just doesn't fit with all the other "-iniums". Like Geraninium...and...er..

# Yay Chemistry
Is it an alkali earth metal?
Only science can tell me (or any 16 year old)
(, Thu 2 Aug 2007, 10:34, archived)
# It's very very reactive
With water. It's like sodium or lithium TIMES A THOUSAND. The video I saw ages back of someone
putting a tiny grain of caesium in to a
reasonably large glass vessel created a big
explosion, and actually shattered the vessel.

# I love that video.

# I saw that video
but as a 30 year old I reserve the right to forget everything I ever learnt and replace it with movie trivia and song lyrics.
