it's tempting
but she is so ignorant, and is aware she is ignorant, that she is quite amusing

I don't like when people take pride in ignorance
It's not a badge of honour.

Is it mandatory for 22 year olds to know the meaning of 'hibernate' now?
Still, young people are remarkably uneducated these days. I blame the teachers. Quite a few of my friends are teachers, and they don't know the stuff they teach.
*sigh*
Just ask your colleague to read Wikipedia when she gets home. Not just the page on hibernation. All of it.

well, the hibernate question is merely indicative of a general lack of knowledge
rather than a specific issue.
it is related to her leaving scholl with no qualification, but i feel that someone would have to be deliberately avoiding the world to be quite this unaware

or redundant, either works.
is this board made up exclusively of 22 year olds today?

nope
redundancy and usefulness are different things.
Redundant would imply that the concept is still used, but another word is chosen to express it.
