This is a normal post I saw this the other day, however....
It's not an improvement on the wind up lights already on the market and those you can get for under $1.
It's just using the old weighted mechanism that grandfather clocks have used for centuries.

Lifting a bag of rocks every 30 minutes is not always an option ( think old and infirm here)

They were tasked to create a solar light.
Africa has solar resources coming out of its arse why ignore that?

Lots a clock work for fine african dust to jam up.

It's not a portable light. (when in use)
So those nighttime trips to the shitter are going to be just as scary.

For the amount these guys are asking for you can supply 114,583 Africans with free light.

No it hasn't got a couple of terminals for charging stuff however if a load only powers an LED for 30 minutes then it's next to useless for any meaningful power recharging.

This is a normal post possibly why the people that asked them to do it in the first place aren't supplying the funds they are now chasing

This is a normal post The video should say
we were asked to design a simple and cheap lighting solution that uses the sun's power, something Africa has quite alot of. Instead we designed a completely different product and the charity said "nice but it's not fucking solar powered is it beardy?".

Regardless, I still admire their efforts. Although thinking about it if the kids in the African villages just bought kindles with back lit screensthe problem would be solved.

This is a normal post The sun?
Pretty major solar resource right there.

I don't mean to come down hard on this project but they were given a brief which they ignored.
A brief no doubt given to them by people that know the situation on the ground.

For the amount of money they are asking for and diverting away from other African NGO's you could do a lot more good if the idea is cheap / free lighting.
