This is a normal post no...
sex, i.e male or female, is biological, or 'based on your chromosome make-up'.

This is a normal post Do no animals
display gender-specific behaviour, then?

eg are male and female animals always as aggressive as each other?

This is a normal post anthrrpology 101...
no of course not, they don't have sophisticated societies that invent and impose social constructs. they don't have religons, politics, philosophy etc either. gender is not a term that should be applied to them.
if the midwife asks 'would you like to know the baby's gender?' tell her to fuck off and tell you the sex. the baby can pick its gender and be a tranny or whatever when it decides what it wants to be.

This is a normal post How do you explain
gender differences that occur before people have any awareness of society, such as the way boys are four times more likely to have autism than girls?

There isn't a binary system to behaviour, so saying "all girls like this" and "all boys like this" is ridiculous, but males on average are, say, more prone to violence (and that is the case in the animal kingdom too). Thinking that gender plays no role at all in personality, just physical shape seems like wishful thinking.

I will have to say "citation required" to you as what you are saying doesn't match anything I have ever read.

This is a normal post Of course,
"the baby can pick its gender and be a tranny or whatever when it decides what it wants to be" is only the case if people do choose their sexuality, which is a common argument used by the homophobic.

This is a normal post if you are trying to accuse me of subtextual gay bashing...
then i am shocked and appalled. i think i am being super uncharacteristically right on in my whole 'gender is a social contruct' tub thumping. it's a basic socialist/marxist tennet.
P.S. you are poofter.

This is a normal post No, I think you are being very liberal
My example was just to show that proving "everything is a choice" is not really a good liberal aim.

This is a normal post i think our argument comes down to this...
you think the word 'gender' is synonymous with the word 'sex' in terms of biologically differentiating between men and women. i don't.
women often have long hair, wear make up and lots of jewelry.
men often have short hair, wear no make up and little or no jewelry.
this is not because one has a vagina and the other a penis, there is no biological determination for it. it is a gender imposed social construct.

This is a normal post I would say you can only impose things
on pre-existing desires.

Sounds to me like you believe in the blank slate, whereas I think most of personality is genetic.

Do you think that if you raised kids in an identical manner, there would be no differences (taken on averages) at all based on gender? If so, I ask you whose theories you are going on there.

This is a normal post i think the jury will never return a verdict on the whole nature/nurture thing...
it's a bit of both surely? pooffy pants. and anyway 'personality' is so multi-faceted that while i'm happy to accept that sexuality can be predetermined and is not a choice, although it surely can be, i think most or many of the most superficial, and therefore most obvious, aspects of personality are massively influenced by nurture not nature.

This is a normal post I say it is both,
but you seem to be saying it is entirely nurture.

This is a normal post and i quote you.... 'I think most of personality is genetic'...
you mis-perceive me. all i was saying was that gender is a social construct and then you went and started talking about animals.
(, Fri 8 Feb 2013, 17:17, , Reply)
This is a normal post Well, I'd rephrase that as
'I think most personality traits have a genetic basis'. Yes, you need society to trigger them, and that is where I'd say social constructs come into it. However, I doubt society can create them.

I felt you were saying that there are no non-physical gender differences at all without society's involvement, hence why examples of it in the animal kingdom are interesting.

This is a normal post Everything I have ever read recently backs up your argument
Men are more likely to be handymen or plumbers. Women are most likely to be bored housewives/stable hands. Then again I only read porn mags.

*sorry
