Awkward moment A-level student opens his results live on Good Morning Britain…and is left devastated
Looks like he's going to cry.

I remember when I got mine.
I needed two As and a B to meet my offer. Opened the envelope and saw Two As and a B and started celebrating, then realised the B was in the subject I was supposed to be studying, which was a bit of an issue. I think I made a noise a bit like "Yyyyyyeeeaah-shhhhhhhhhhiiiiiiittt!"
Turned out they still let me in, which was nice.
Cool story, I know....

Why are grade requirements so high these days? Is it because A levels are piss easy now?

Grades are dropping with less emphasis on coursework, I believe
Also they're scrapping the AS level system next year in favour of more heavily weighted finals, as it used to be.

Dunno
I did mine in the old system. Don't really understand all this AS stuff.
Also, in terms of grade requirements being high, I think Nottingham and Aberystwyth both wanted higher grades than Oxford, which I always thought was a bit up themselves.

Confession time
I dossed around during my A levels and got all c's. I was gutted. I could have got into some uni I guess but I gave up. I worked at a bookshop coffehouse for 18 months, realized I'd made a mistake and went to my local Uni which was a fairly highly ranked one that certainly would have required more than 3 c's to get into. I spoke directly to the head of the department after the UCAS deadline and lied about my grades on a bullshit CV. He didn't check any of it and gave me a position in his department. I was enrolled 3 weeks later and after 3 years got a decent degree which led to further ed and then a not bad at all first job. I doubt it'll come back to bite me. I'm all in the clear I'm sure. But paying off that mountain of student debt does still feel like penance for a lie.

Fucking cruel. Teachers know the results before the kids do anyway. They could have advised him not to go on telly.
