The problemis that there's still power to the fitting, just one of the wires, and hence the 'leccy flow, has been cut by the switch.
Stick your finger in there, and the other wire (with 240V happily waiting for something to flow down) will ground through your finger and make you say words in front of your kids that they'll repeat at school.
