A wonderful heartwarming tale...
Threads.

As it's tagline stated, the closest you will ever want to come to Nuclear War.

Probably the most horrific and genuinely scary film I have ever watched but by god it's compelling.

Oh, and it came with the dubious accolade of those people from Sheffield who still remember the old 'egg Box' council offices cheering when the blast wave hits. Sick puppies.

I saw this a few months ago on tinterweb
nasty thing that nuclear war, makes you piss yourself in the street (if you look it up on imdb, I think the actress is listed as "urinating woman")

Oh yes.
I saw the movie for the first time about 3 years ago and it scared the fuck out of me.

the war game
if your in the mood for depressing ww3 docufilms try "the war game" 1960's BBC film made to inform the public about the affects of a nuclear war. so terrifing the goverment here and the US band it. the sight of 60's bobbies shooting looters was not nice.

Ah, the excellently written and shot War Game! Very harrowing as well, although being a 60's documentary it has dated slightly. I think I prefer Threads over the War Game mainly due to the (at the time) more contemporary setting of the Mid-80's and some of the more stark imagery post strike (I'm thinking of the carbonised baby being cradled by the traumatised mother in particular).

Ultimately though, they are both FAR better than the anodyne "The Day After" produced in the US around the same time...
