The Ginger Experience
Bollocks. I meant to enter this questions as I set it. Anyway VERY VERY quickly I'll write a quick list of my experiences having red hair.

1. At junior school the teachers made jokes about "the milkmen"
2. The names. Duracell and Baked-Beans are the two I remember.
3. If I'm in at a public event I get picked on. Say I go to a comedy night it's always me the comedian will start riffing off. Even if it's not making reference to my hair, I just (presumably) stand out when scanning a room.
4. As a child / teenager, older women stopping me in street to tell me my hair was beautiful. Sadly this had stopped by the time I was old enough for such interest to be useful.
5. I'm never very anonymous. Often, even when introduced to new people, people say they've seen me around.
6. Old people (never had this from someone young or my own generation) assuming or making jokes that I've got a temper. This irritates the fuck out of me and of course then proves the statement true.
7. People being really puzzled about my kids not being ginger. Their mum has black hair. It's a recessive gene. Didn't anyone listen in GCSE biology?
8. It goes hand in hand with freckles and pale skin. That combined with hey fever means summer is a bit crap for me.
9. I'm getting bored of typing this list, I've got work I should be doing and I'm hungry. BYEEEEEEE!

BTW: The reason I set this question? I was chatting to a journalist called James Medd and he'd written a very interesting Guardian story about having ginger kids and I fancied getting you lot to share your stories, prejudices and random blather on the subject. Still, there will be probably some good stuff voted up. There normally is.
