This is a question Nativity Plays

Every year the little kids at schools all over get to put on a play. Often it's christmas themed, but the key thing is that everyone gets a part, whether it's Snowflake #12 or Mary or Grendel (yes, really).

Personally I played a 'Rich Husband' who refused to buy matches from some scabby street urchin. Never did see her again...

Who or what did you get to be? And what did you have to wear?

Crappy middle-school Christmas carols
We we forced to sing some modern Christmas carol no-doubt written by some noncing church-goer who though the traditional ones were outdated and boring. One song simply went, "Were you there when they" + repead ad nauseum. At the end, after several verses of this drivel, the school tosser shouted, "NO!" and was thus given a thorough bollocking by the teachers. In retrospect though, he was right. I wasn't there, nor anyone else in the whole school, the parents in attendance nor anyone else in the church where the performance took place.

you were scammed!
I went to a catholic school, and we sang a hymn which sounds like that - it went 'were you there when they , repeat, repeat verse with different line, but it was definetly an old hymn, and it was about easter - 'were you there when they crucified my lord etc'...... so not just a crap modern christmas carol - also a complete cocking rip-off.

Crikey...
I (sadly) went to a Catholic primary/high school (N.B. Mandatory religious education gives you more than enough ammunition to become an Atheist), and I vaguely remember bits of that stupid hymn.

'were you there when they nailed him to a tree'
was it the same one with the chorus of 'it makes me wonder' or something equally as dull?

*primary school flashbacks*

AAAAARGH!
