It'll be because I haven't been posting much recently. Sorry Jeff.
I've always been the best part of the internet and my attention is required elsewhere at the moment.

You're wrong.
I'm the best person on the Internet. Even bedford agrees.

I'm not long since back from an interview in Sunderland.
Both today's and yesterday's seemed to go well. I'll find out about today's sometime tomorrow, the other next week.

One's general admin for a housing group.
The other (today) is one of 3 assistant project officer roles (my preferred option even though it pays a bit less), one of which is just 2 miles down the road. However, if successful I'm not guaranteed to be placed there even though I've stated it as a preference. The other two are in Sunderland and Easington, which might be cost prohibitive in terms of travel (the salary's not great).

All the best anyway
Where is Easington? Somewhere near Chester-le-Street?

East Durham coast.
About an hour's drive away from me. The job would involve a lot of travelling about as well, so petrol costs and wear and tear would be quite hefty.

Surely you'll get an allowance for work mileage?
But yes, I can see the dilemma. It's costing me about £150 a month to keep a relatively efficient diesel in fuel at the moment.

Work mileage yeah.
But daily mileage would be about 100 a day on commuting alone, so I'd be forking out around £90 a week on petrol which would take a hell of a chunk out of an already not brilliant wage.

And commuting long distances is not amusing either
Tough choices ahead here.

I know, I've done it before.
Last time was just for six weeks at the end of my last job (to a place just a few miles up the road from Easington) and that got tedious very quickly. Although I did at least get mileage costs for it as it was off-site work.
So whilst this role is my preferred one, if I was offered the Sunderland or Easington gig, then got an offer from the housing people, I'd go with the housing as it's more easily commutable being in Newcastle. If I don't get the housing offer, but do get one of those two, I'd probably have to take it but keep looking close to home.

I should imagine that the destination stays where it is and the train goes to it
