I've reached a point in life where I'm genuinely excited about a new function I've found working with spreadsheets in Excel.
What lows have you reached recently?

Alt: metal or wood and why?

OH JUST FUCKING SHUT UP WILL YOU?

(, Thu 2 Aug 2012, 11:21, Reply)
No-one is surprised by this.

Pivot tables.
I was entering data manually - now I can automate it! HUZZAH!

I was meant to be playing bass with New Model Army by this point in my life.
(, Thu 2 Aug 2012, 11:24, Reply)
Pivots are good if the final result you want is a pivot table
if there's any other steps then they're shit. Much better to use =countifs and =sumifs
(, Thu 2 Aug 2012, 11:26, Reply)
I'm making graphs.
Specifically, peak flow graphs.

It seems to be alright for that, but I need to get my head around them. Is there a way to make it include zeros where there isn't any data?
(, Thu 2 Aug 2012, 11:28, Reply)
If(E5='',"0",E5)
will replace any blanks with a zero, if you're looking at cell E5 obviously.
just copy that down in a new column
(, Thu 2 Aug 2012, 11:29, Reply)
Aren't you missing a " in that equation?

(, Thu 2 Aug 2012, 11:32, Reply)
single pip for the first bit double for the second... not sure why but it works.

(, Thu 2 Aug 2012, 11:34, Reply)
Oh, there you go...jolly good!
...never knew that. Also works with double "pips" too.

I like Excel....useful for working out 7 parameter transformations to convert raw GPS data to Transverse Mercator Map Grid co-ordinates.

Also like wood, not metal.

Pivots ae ace... but can be really frustrating and confusing
depending on the data your using...

I like Vlookups.

I dun a cheer the other week
finally figured out how nested IFs work.

alt: wood, I can't get metal.
(, Thu 2 Aug 2012, 11:20, Reply)
Of course they work!

(, Thu 2 Aug 2012, 11:22, Reply)
They do once you get that
the next IF goes where you'd normally put ELSE.
(, Thu 2 Aug 2012, 11:26, Reply)
Well its set up like this
IF(1,2,3)
where:
1 logical test
2, value if true
3, value if false.

2 or 3 can be replaced with any other functions of sets of functions in excel.
