Morning, my nig-nogs.
How's it going today? At least it's Thursday already. Payday for me tomorrow. Good news as I've lived on less than a quid (and the charity of others) for three days.
Are you good with money? Do you have 'savings'? Or are you (like all the best people) a profligate imbecile, like the dissolute son of a C18th nobleman gambling away the family estate in the clubs of Mayfair?
You can't take it with you, I always say. You can't take it with you and you can't give it to your own family because NICK CLEGG AND HIS CRONIES steal half of it and spend it on disabled ramps for blacks in Burnley or some shit. Yes, I am still going on about that.
EDIT: Channel 5, 8pm tonight: thank me tomorrow

I don't sit down and carefully plan my spending
but it turns out I make more than I spend usually, so over the years I've built up quite the nest egg, aided by a gift from Dad and about 60K from the sale of my house.
Too soon to tell if I can keep up the monthly surplus now I'm in London, though.

Savings are overrated
I save a little bit each month, but I make overpayments on my mortgage which is far more useful.
If I want to pay for anything substantial, I stick it on a credit card and transfer the balance somewhere with 0%.

The usefullness of overpayments is entirely dependant on the rate of interest you have on your mortgage
and whether or not you want the ready cash. It's not a given.

I have a endowment shortfall (ahem)
so it's a bit of a necessity more than anything.
