of ffs, it doesn't matter if the minister/priest is gay, it's part of canon law.
they can't marry the gays no matter what the law says because they're sworn to uphold canon law and that says a marriage can only be between a man and a woman.
so, if a priest DID do this the marriage would be annulled by the local bishop and the priest could be thrown out the church.

+ they're even more fucking right wing than the catholics!

(, Mon 22 Oct 2012, 12:51, Reply)
I see. But the General Assembly could changevthe rules, right?
And what about those denominations in favour? Surely they can do what they want?
(, Mon 22 Oct 2012, 12:54, Reply)
no, the canon law would need to be changed and that takes fucking ages.
not only that, there need to be a large percentage of priests voting for it to be changed, there is simply no appetite in ANY of the churches for that.

what denominations are currently in favour of gay marriage? catholics nope, CoE nope, CoS nope and those are the least right wing of the jesus lovers. muslims? can't see that.

Quakers are for it, but they're wishy washy liberals.

(, Mon 22 Oct 2012, 12:58, Reply)
right. they're not a formalised church though.

(, Mon 22 Oct 2012, 13:00, Reply)
I don't see any other church with it's own oats.

(, Mon 22 Oct 2012, 13:02, Reply)
yes. it's not a church, and has no unified message.
they are the christian equivalent of hippies, no-one gives a fuck and they'll probably all die from drinking unpasteurised milk.
(, Mon 22 Oct 2012, 13:04, Reply)
um, Quakers for one, cannae mind ay the others, ken?
Priests? In the CoS? What fuckery is this?
(, Mon 22 Oct 2012, 12:59, Reply)
what a tedious point to make you pointless dullard.
is this because you don't know what you're talking about?
(, Mon 22 Oct 2012, 13:01, Reply)
you what?
There are definitely some denominations (minor ones) in favour. My dad was a CoS minister, so I vaguely know about the structure etc of that church, and on the proper Scots side of my family they're Baptists.

But as I'm atheist I haven't been near a church in a long time and I'm genuinely curious to find out about how equality legislation will be implemented in Scotland, as I believe it's coming in there before England and Wales.

Calm down dude.
(, Mon 22 Oct 2012, 13:06, Reply)
see the legislation only gives the same legal rights and status to the gays.
so, instead of a civil partnership they can get proper married.
it means fuck all to the churches though as they don't need to do anything about it at all. simple as that.
(, Mon 22 Oct 2012, 13:08, Reply)
I read this as 'I am gay - please punch me'
