Cake will be served
as soon as HLT gets here, as I'm all out at the moment.

A cup of tea would be nice. Bit too early for cake for me. Virtual or otherwise.

Morning!
I still feel sick from Saturday night:(
I may go home.

Or does this monday feel even more depressing than usual?

Sounds like you're all knackered from the weekend.

And there's really no need to get dressed here Becky. None at all... ; )
(, Mon 7 Jul 2008, 10:06, Reply)
Yeah...
This Monday is a bit shite.
I should be excited, what with my new job and everything.
I wish I was in bed with some coffee instead.

Did we have good weekends?

I went to the "Psycho Buildings" exhibition at the Hayward Gallery yesterday. Great stuff, but I'm not entirely sure it's worth the 10 pounds entrance fee...

Hey becky
I still feel awful.
Just about managed to keep a sarnie down but that's the first thing I've eaten since Saturday:(

I'm in London today how exciting! Although it doesnt make much of a difference to you lot!
Did anybody do anything exciting this weekend?

Hey Lucy
I had a birthday do on Saturday that I'm still being punished for. Spent all day on here yesterday posting very long story and feeling sorry for myself!
(, Mon 7 Jul 2008, 10:28, Reply)
@ BK
must've been a good party then! did you have fun?

*soothes*

I spend most of yesterday watching some form of sport. Which is unusual for me. but I did play with my new sewing machine as well.

A mate of mine was out the other night and had to get out of the car twice to spew as his wife was driving him home, then spent the rest of the night emitting into the toilet from both ends.

It wasn't the drink, it was a bug. So you could use that excuse too.

*fries*

Bacon rolls anyone?

Is this thread open to newbies? I am scared but heard QotW's are fluffy pussycats compared to /talk.

My weekend
was about as exciting as, well, a wet weekend.

Friday was OK - my sister came for a brief visit, so we had lots of wine.

Saturday - sat and worked on music at the computer. And posted here. No gig, as it fell through.

Sunday - watched the Silverstone GP, which was a bit of a highlight of the weekend, then played at a wedding at night.

A bit dull, but I've had worse.

Edit *hands bacon roll to Moniker*

Any sauce with that?

*bokes*
Don't mention food.

It was a great do, but I haven't drank so much in a long long time. I managed to inhale a bottle of red, a bottle of white and half a bottle of vodka. Stupid me!

I'm turning the pan off in a minute.

A REAL strawberry tart, HLT? That's just decadence!

Especially when you had one just the other day too

*jealouses*

Edit - Lucy, what's a Yellow Belly Snake when it's at home?
(, Mon 7 Jul 2008, 10:54, Reply)
mr k
It's a sweety, and one of the best ones. Its like a big snake and has a yellow belly. You know how in Haribo the hearts have foam stuff on the bottom and jelly on the top? It's like a MASSIVE snake shaped sweet like that.
*dribbles*
(, Mon 7 Jul 2008, 10:57, Reply)
no bacon rolls for me thanks
yes, a REAL strawberry tart. It was lovely (it wasn't from Greggs!) but yes quite decadent as I had one the other day. Our cafe lady keeps buying them for us!

sore back? how come?
*applies heat rub*
(, Mon 7 Jul 2008, 10:57, Reply)
@Lucy
Ah, I think I know the sort of thing you're talking about. It's made from that kind of dry, foamy chewy sweet stuff?

Haven't eaten a sweet made of that stuff in ages.

@HLT - Thanks for the back rub! I have a history of dodgy back-ness. It stems from lugging my keyboard to and from gigs. Occasionally a disc gives way and it hurts for a bit. It happened as I sat down on Saturday.

It's not too bad this time, but I have been immobilised by it in the past.

*enjoys HLT's rubbings*

ouch
have you tried flipping your mattress?

that sometimes helps.

or if you like you could lie on the floor and I'll walk up and down your spine* in the manner of a tiny chinese girl.

*not advised at present due to unexpected density of strawberry tart

ooh, incidentally, my weekend was much brightened by the arrival of an enormous yellow rubber duck, which is now living in my bath!

For those of you who read of my Royal Mail-related grumblings, this just reinforced my low opinion of them as the parcel was posted on June 9th. And was sent by registered delivery.

Awwww you guys!
I feel all warm and fluffeh!

I've been camping in Cornwall this weekend, in the rains and the winds, and there was no bar on the campsite.

Oh yes, near Watergate Bay. I'm Cornish (and naturally nosey), so I like to know where people have been.
I did hear that the weather truly sucked down there though.
(, Mon 7 Jul 2008, 11:28, Reply)
Morning all!
*preens*

I haven't felt this good on a Monday in a long time. I suspect it's the exhaustion from having been out every night for a week, seeing as I'm old now and clearly can't handle that kind of fun.

On Saturday I had six species of vertebrate and two species of invertebrate for dinner. How many different animals have you eaten at once?
(, Mon 7 Jul 2008, 11:38, Reply)
Unfortunately
there's not much you can do with a herniated disc other than apply ice when it happens and keep active to stop the muscles seizing up.

But it's good to know you're all so keen to help. Especially with the rubbing...

Maybe it's just the fudge doughnut bribery though!
(, Mon 7 Jul 2008, 11:39, Reply)
Wookiee...
I ate about 90 species at once...

Biology labwork, we were culturing benthinc meiofauna.

A friend dared me to down one of the cultures in a shot of vodka.
I did.

I was very, very sick.
(, Mon 7 Jul 2008, 11:41, Reply)
Kaol wins
the 'eating lots of species' game, as only Kaol can.

But I did once eat five different types of fish from the same plate.

And I've had kangaroo, wallaby and emu all at once too.
(, Mon 7 Jul 2008, 11:44, Reply)
If my counting is correct
I think I had 7 different types of meat yesterday at a bbq, and even some vegetables too.

Not many though.

That's a shame. Fish is great. I've not yet eaten one I didn't like. (Although muddy carp in Hungary wasn't exactly top of my list).

@clendrix - I'm still having a lab clearout. I've got lots of boxes of stuff to be thrown away, I'm filling bottles with waste chemicals, and I'm having little fires too.

@HLT - They were singing, but it was in Greek so I didn't understand the words.

Fish are animals, HLT
in the same way that mammals and reptiles are. It's just that we tend to use the word 'animals' to describe land-based critters. But birds, insects, molluscs and even humans are animals too.

Tulips aren't though.

And come to mention it, the song from the street urchins did have a bit that sounded like 'Donald where's yer troosers?' in the middle.

@spakka
Try googling for them. The interweb has numerous sound effects available for free, or for very little money. I've used some on projects I've worked on, and provided it's just for background and not the main sound, they work well enough.
(, Mon 7 Jul 2008, 12:42, Reply)
Farmyard sound effects
Unfortunately, this does not involve goats or peacocks.

@Kaol: I thought you'd already started a new job. Thinking of leaving so soon?

EDIT: @K2k6: I've done that. I have found some good effects this way, but no ammount of tweaking with Cooledit etc. can turn them into exactly what I want. And the quality of the sound-samples is variable to say the least. And besides, these are the main sounds and not just background noise.
(, Mon 7 Jul 2008, 12:44, Reply)
@ancrenne
Heh heh. I was going to omit the 'in your knowledge' bit in the original post, but figured I'd be sent back to the naughty step again. HLT's already done that once today, so I wasn't going to push it!

Hi Folks
Just thought I'd pop in for a bit to see how everybody is and eat some cake if there is any left.

My weekend was mostly crap, broken waterpipe in the house and making furniture in the rain.

But I did get 2 new pets on Sunday.

7.5 weeks old and tiny albino balls of fluff and teeth. I'll post pics tomorrow if people want to see them.

Hello again folks.
I had to go and meet a surprise friend and eat some fruit.

@Clendrix - As soon as genetic engineering is sufficiently advanced, my bonsai penguin pets will be the talk of the town! And I alone shall have the monopoly on the minituarised herring they will need to survive.

Muhahahahaha
(, Mon 7 Jul 2008, 14:11, Reply)
Keeping penguins
would be OK if you lived in Antarctica, and could provide them with fish and nice icy ocean water to swim in.

But in Britain it's a bit wrong. Although I once went to Edinburgh zoo and was quite taken with the penguin parade. This may however have been because the girl in charge of the penguins wasn't wearing a bra and was wobbling around under her t-shirt.

@Dr Minge - not bad thanks. Synopsis of my dull weekend further up the thread.

@clendrix. I think I must just be in a naughty mood today. Minor events in my life have raised my naughtiness levels slightly.

Anchovies would be too salty for tiny penguins. In a somewhat-related fashion, I discovered yesterday that a tin of anchovies is far too many to put on a single pizza.
The tiny penguins could live in the salad drawer in your fridge, and they would come with an ice-cube tray to make iceberg-shaped cubes for them to play on.

No, I have not given this too much thought. Plotting it for decades? Nonsense.

Stupid genetic engineering not progressing fast enough. Bloody Jurassic Park getting my hopes up.

Try telling my dad that - he also disapproves of the fact I want to "live in sin" (from an atheist this is very hard to swallow) with Mr Maladicta, as we will "do married things" and it's Not Right. Short of telling my dad to get fucked about that, I don't know what to do, and if I don't get a job here I will have to live with my parents again, and my dad is an argumentative control freak with major short man syndrome, and my mum, while she is generally lovely, fusses over me so much that it does my head in. I'm not really supposed to have fires in the lab, other than the Bunsen burners and gas torches, but I'm using the hot bench to dispose of some old residue (because it's fun).

So I've got little crucibles of burning sludge flickering away on the bench. One of them had a wee overflow problem and dropped burning liquid onto a rubber tube, which required some extinguishment earlier.

I think roasting marshmallows may be hazardous because of the chemical toxicity issues though!

I went swimming even though I didn't really want to go swimming. But I thought, no, come on now and get some exercise. I got in there and I could see the pool was packed before I got changed but I still went in. Why! fer fucks sake. I then spent 10 minutes swimming around people and came back out, got changed and went home.

Bah!

I am still here, although I have been wrangling with the box office takings for a while.

what did I tell you about running near the water?

Go and sit on the naughty step, both of you!

but here, take these enormous warm fluffy towels and snuggle into them. I don't want you to catch pneumonia.
