One day left
Til the weekend kids...what are your plans for today? I'm starting work late and will mostly be doing the lovely job of filing again as we've only got one vet on and no ops booked.

Morning becky
Probably work and general panicking.
I seem to be good at that lately!

Lucky you!
Today I shall be mostly wearing smashing pance, with Alvin Stardust.

Morning Boss and Becks
(see what I did there?)

Well so far, I've posted an entry to the QOTW and, er, well little else.

Actually, my post explains what I've been doing. Don't click on it though, as it's shite.

Edit - good morning to you too, Mr Monkeysex.

Hi folks.
Today I shall be mostly procrastinating.

It's what I do best.

@Boss
Yup, fine - if a tad bored as work is a bit crap at the moment. You?

@BGB - I can't be bothered procrastinating today. I'll do it tomorrow.

I am not looking forward to the weekend.
There is something I have to do that I'm not really looking forward to.

(And no Bert, it's nothing sexual).

Wish me luck.

@al
There are some people in the world who just like to moan, about EVERYTHING. It wouldn't matter if we were here or not, they'd always bitch about something.

Stop taking it so seriously people, it's only the internet.

@BGB Oi! I take offence at that comment!
Good luck with whatever it is you're doing though I bet it involves something sexual anyway, you saucy little minx

@ Al - Lannes wrote
a bit of a rant on the quality of QOTW stories today.

But I think his point was that the highest rated stories were all puns and piss takes, voted for by 'the clique' (us?) and not proper stories.

But we're hardly responsible for that. In fact, as Al says, we're not clogging up the board with shite now - we're putting it in here instead - so the good stories should find room to shine through.

I've not posted much on the last couple of QOTWs, because I've not had many relevant stories. Better that than posting some crap, I'd reckon.

is it as fun as taking dead animals out of the freezer, determining that they were put to sleep in November of last year and have stayed there since and then making the decision to phone the owners or not to pay for cremation? Thank god we didn't call them as it would have been my job to do the calls.

Hope whatever it is goes ok for you me dear.

Berts right.
People will always find something to moan about.

There's things I don't like on here but I accept them as you can't please everyone with a site like this.

I've decided
what my next tattoo is going to be, tell me if it's cheesy and shit though. a dragonfly with its wings outstretched across my shoulders and it's body along my spine down to my coccyx.

@becky if it's a talented tattooist you're after, the world's 13th best female tattooist, Ruth something or other, lives in my town.
She did my one, if you remember it/liked it?

@BK Is that just in case anyone tries to watch you as a repeat? -so they can't tell which year you were made?

Sounds like a good 'un, Becky...
I have something very similar - a dragon with its wings stretched across my shoulders, but the tail's not that long.

Go fer it! I'm still trying to decide what to have done next... So many designs, so little skin!

You got it in one pretty much.

You know in life that sometimes you have to stop and take a deep breath before you carry on. It's also tied in with the panic attacks I used to get and slow breathing to calm down. Lost of reasons really.

I have a buddha on my back that Lois Malloy did. He does Beckhams tattooes, although I didn't know that at the time.

Biggest I've seen is about 4 inches long with a reasonable girth.

Buzzards
are lazy buggers. They won't hunt if they can dine on tasty pre-killed meals on the road. Meals under wheels, if you will. Run over some rabbits on your way to work if you want to see more buzzards.

Actually, there is a huge number of buzzards these days. There's been quite a population explosion of late.

Four inches sounds about right, it's a little big for an emperor dragonfly but not implausible.
The sparrow was very lickle and had it by the tail, so the dragonfly was almost dragging it around trying to get away.

Edit - DiT, why would you show me that? Now I have to stay in for a month so I can afford one.

My plans for today involve going on a train-ticket purchasing spree.

Also, last night, I slept on my left arm by mistake and it aches.

PS. In case you haven't seen it yet, at the end of last night's chat thread, I did a little Photoshop.

Re QOTW cliques: Sometimes, especially during those weeks when the answers are coming in thick and fast, instead of reading the QOTW, I read through my "friends' activity" page to see which stories are clickworthy. This does bias my clicks towards people on my friends-list and the stories they liked, but it's useful for people with not enough time to read all the entries. To counter the bias, I still skim over the main QOTW to find those hidden gems.

@beckx
That's an interesting tattoo idea. Perhaps you could get the tattoo artist to draw it on paper before it's done so you can decide whether or not you're satisfied with the quality. I've been thinking about getting a tattoo for the past 10 years but never get round to having it done. I know exactly what I want and where.

@BGB
Good idea. I sometimes forget to breathe when I should. In fact, sometimes when I wake up with a blocked nose, I panic because I think I can't breathe but then remember I can use my mouth for breathing too. Why do I keep forgetting this (to be fair, it is first thing in the morning)?

@DiT
One of the things I’m looking forward to when I have kids is being able to play with them while playing with Lego. It’s just the excuse I need to get back into Lego.

Re dragonflies: They eat mosquitoes so they must be good.

On a totally different subject
I managed to telephone myself yesterday.

My phone rang yesterday, but before I got a chance to answer, it rung off. I saw the number on the caller ID, but decided not to phone it back as I guessed it was a wrong number.

Two minutes later though, the bloke who'd called turned up in the lab. He said that when he'd tried to call, the name associated with my number had come up with something else (we have those fancy Cicso VoIP phones, which are actually pretty crap), so he thought he'd got the wrong number. I have two phones on my line, including a conference phone, and the number had come up as that. So I thought I'd check.

My boss is away at the moment, and he's forwarded his phone to mine (we share an office - I could actually just answer his phone!) but I thought I'd dial his number and see what appeared on his display. Now normally, when you call a forwarded number from the line it's been forwarded to, the system is clever enough to realise, and rings the original number. Not our system. My phone rang. I'd called myself.

I didn't answer it though, in case I disappeared into a black hole. I had a similar fear last week with something else, actually.
(, Fri 11 Jul 2008, 11:43, Reply)
Poor K2k6
is it so lonely up there in the far reaches of the north that you need to call yourself?

What would you talk about?
(, Fri 11 Jul 2008, 11:54, Reply)
Lonely?
Not at all, clendrix. I've spoken to three (3) different people already today...

I don't know what I'd talk to myself about though. Probably just moan about the phone system.

I also feel I need to go swimming today. I haven't been this week because of my back problem, but I also need to go down the town to the bank. So do I swim, then skive off this afternoon to go to the bank, take the lazy option and just go to the bank, swim and put off banking until Monday, or do nothing except sit and post here all lunchtime?

Edit @Bert - how can you 'not notice for a year' the fact that your shoulder's dislocated? Didn't the pain kind of give it away?
(, Fri 11 Jul 2008, 13:47, Reply)
Ah, K2k6, I was being flippant.
Believe me, I noticed alright. I didn't sleep for a week, and couldn't move my arm for months.
The pain was incredible, but I was 12, and even though I sat outside my Mum's bedroom crying every night for a month from the pain, all she said was, 'You've probably just pulled a muscle,' and then ignored me.
Gotta love that neglectful, scottish parenting.

When I was a youngster,
my mother dislocated my elbow trying to make me go to the doctor because she thought I'd swallowed a penny. I hadn't swallowed a penny, as was later proved, but I stopped complaining once my arm looked like it had been put on wrong. The doctor apparently called all his colleagues in to have a look as he relocated it.

It's never dislocated again, but it does hyperextend about 10 degrees now.

What a day!

We had a team awayday on Wednesday, and took all day yesterday to recover. This morning my boss was waiting for me as I walked in with an urgent task. Before it was finished I had another lined up.

Had to go to the pub at lunchtime to chill a bit and read the 'best of'. As I was half way down my pint of Centurian's Ghost, the barman walked over to me with another pint, said it had been poured 'by mistake' and would I like it!!

As a result, although I have work-a-plenty for this afternoon, I don't feel like doing it. Also, I'm on a 2-day training course in London Monday/Tuesday so can't just toss it off all afternoon.

Boo sucks.

I've no free time in London, but if any of you will be at King's Cross before 6.00pm on Tuesday, I'll probably be having a pint of Fuller's London Pride in that pub inside the station.

and wetter than I was when I went swimming. Damn this summer weather.

@HLT - You've already had a snog and the kiss of life from me today, but what the hell:

I could make good use of that.

Me want snog too
I'll be the tired looking bloke with a Terry Pratchett book on the table in front of him.

I get out from London Bridge at c.5.00 and my train leaves at 6.05, so be there on time or miss the chance of a lifetime.

Hour and 10 to go for me.
Bit bored here in rainy Harrogate. Not very busy.

Tuesday
I'm gonna be in the pub inside King's Cross station, clutching my Murakami book and trying to look cool, at just gone 5pm next Tuesday.

There is no reason for this.* I often do that on Tuesdays.

*OK, so maybe I'm going to try to find Che who will be there for half an hour. I'll not be able to stay late, but if anyone's nearby...

Edit at Wookie: *laughs lots*

A pro pos of nothing, my boss has just told me that if I increase our core readership by (x) amount befor Christmas, he'll pay the deposit for the car that I want.

Now then... How to get these readers?

AND: I'll be the guy reading something that'ds meant to make me look intellectual. I may or may not understand it.

@DiT & Boss
Just 1 whole hour for me.

@Clendrix I'll be reading a big grey shiny book of horror stories if I'm there.

I've only read
that one and the short story one with the vanishing elephant in it, but they were both hugely enjoyable.

@DiT
Is that any car that you want? So would he pay 50% deposit on a 911 Turbo or something?

Then you could take the cash, buy a Peugeot 208 or something and have lots of money for a while.

I don't suppose it works like that though...
(, Fri 11 Jul 2008, 15:33, Reply)
The Wind-Up Bird Chronicles
was very odd and very good! But the first I read was Norweigan Wood and I loved that.

@Dok - OK!

Is that the one alongside the leftmost (when facing the tracks) platform? I once met someone there in my online-dating days.

Oh and I've started a thread about a QOTW drinking game.

Yes, an Alfa.

I know, I know, and I know you're right. But they're achingly pretty, and I'm willing to be hurt just for the joy.

Still, might never happen.

My boss has just bought an R8. I seethe with jealousy!

No, he's minted. He owns the place, and has been slogging at it for 10 years, so he deserves it.

Still, one of the advantages of working for a tiny but very successful company, I suppose.

He's getting it in purple though, so money doesn't buy you taste, obviously!

Been a long week. Looking forward to sinking a cold one tonight and then trimming my bush tomorrow.

When I say trimming my bush, I mean I'll be tidying my garden. Which sounds no better.

I'm afraid, though, I have to leave. I'll be here over the weekend, at some point. Have a cracker!
