Also using this for about a year. No problems yet.

I hate the idea of Google mail and everything being in your inbox

(, Thu 3 Apr 2014, 10:54, Reply)
You can move items to any other folder.
Or have I misunderstood?
(, Thu 3 Apr 2014, 10:57, Reply)
You have labels instead of folders

(, Thu 3 Apr 2014, 11:01, Reply)
Click on an email to open it
Click on "Move to"
Send it to whichever folder you want or open a new one.

Dear IT Person
In Gmail you are still able to set up rules for mail to go to folders that you have created. You have been able to for years, I have folders going back to when I was doing my IT courses. (10 years plus ago)
