Italian reds are usually quite nice.
Anything marked Nebbiolo or Barbera will be a good bet. Nebbiolo is made from the primary grape used in Barolo.

In other news, Dozer isn't as useless as he makes out. I tried an Auchentoshan and loved it. First whisky I've tried that didn't do that burning thing at the back of the throat cheap whiskies do. Lovely to drink.

nice one
Was it the 12 or the three wood?

The 12. Even the girlfriend loved it and she's never been able to stand whisky.
Mind you, I would think she'd only ever tried the shit they use for mixers before now.

the 12 is a solid whisky
The three wood is fucking lovely, the 18 is gorgeous and the 21 is prohibitively expensive so I have no idea, I assume it's extremely good.

Avoid the classic, it's too young and lacks the subtlety of the older expressions.

You're welcome.

also, it doesn't need water, unlike stronger whiskies

I'll certainly be having a crack at the three wood after this bottle

I hope you don't add ice.
Also, Balvenie Doublewood is similar in style. Avoid the Caribbean cask though, rum casked whiskies taste like sick.
