Hey Jasophine, Manchester question for you
Do you know any decent (straight, obvs) boozers in the Portland Street area? I'm down there next weekend - the sprogs are playing volleyball in the UK School Games at the Sugden Centre.
(, Wed 27 Aug 2014, 17:12, Reply)
There's a few actually on Portland street. I
It boasts the smallest pub in europe. The Circus Tavern is pretty decent too but it gets full.
Portland street is just round from Piccadilly though. The Shakespeare is hidden and a bit of an old feel pub.

depends what you are looking for?

I'll meet you for a shot in GAY? ;)
(, Wed 27 Aug 2014, 17:16, Reply)
So what's the smallest pub? Might be worth a visit.
I'm looking for a pub. That sells drink - specifically gin. Nothing shit. No chain pubs.

A shot? A shot on my buttocks no doubt you filthy beast.
(, Wed 27 Aug 2014, 17:18, Reply)
The circus tavern is the smallest one, sorry.
The other one I was referring to is The Old Monkey, it's on a corner just before the Circus

(, Wed 27 Aug 2014, 16:52, Reply)
Perhaps a person needs to be an uncultured juvenile in order to do so.
Certainly the overwhelming number of crammed-full chain bars would back this theory up.

As a 34 year old it was distinctly underwhelming.
(, Wed 27 Aug 2014, 16:54, Reply)
You found their lack of onions disturbing

(, Wed 27 Aug 2014, 16:56, Reply)
I found their lack of shirts considerably more so.

(, Wed 27 Aug 2014, 17:17, Reply)
You could have just avoided the packed full chain bars.
There's plenty of hidden gems in Manchester.

Is the Queen of Hearts still there, in Fallowfield?

(, Wed 27 Aug 2014, 17:10, Reply)
it is but it's changed name and ownership.
Trying to be a posh bar now. Called whatever number it is on the street.
(, Wed 27 Aug 2014, 17:12, Reply)
is snog rip-off yogberries still there?
i was so gutted when the wilmslow one closed. not even a pretence at it being healthy. caramel and chocolate frozen yoghurt smothered in chocolate and sweets and hot fudge sauce ftw.
(, Wed 27 Aug 2014, 17:14, Reply)
Not sure, there's still a good few studenty weird shops like that. I think there's a milkshake one.
I dont venture into those places really :)
(, Wed 27 Aug 2014, 17:17, Reply)
when i worked in didsbury, fallowfield was a shithole and didsbury was too expensive for students
now fallowfield seems to be full of blocks of designer 2 bed, 2 bath flats and didsbury is full of rich students
(, Wed 27 Aug 2014, 17:19, Reply)
I like it in Fallowfield. I like my leafy suburbs.
I can deal with the students now too. it makes it all the more fun when they fuck off home for christmas.
