This is a question Sexism

Freddie Woo tells us: Despite being a well rounded modern man I think women are best off getting married and having a few kids else they'll be absolutely miserable come middle age.

What views do you have that are probably sexist that you believe are true?

Sheila's Fucking Wheels
Sexist, is the poxy Sheila's Wheels advert. I don't care that women get cheaper car insurance than men, but please don't go around perpetuating the myth that "Women make the safest drivers".

Women are afforded cheaper car insurance by dint of lower insurance claim values, not fewer accidents, as calling them safer drivers would suggest. Stastitically, when women have collisions, they are at slower speeds than their male counterparts, they therefore are much cheaper to repair and are far less likely to involve personal injury and the enormous costs therein. Mrs Annoyingly Cautious, can have three small accidents and it'll still cost less than Mr. Boy Racer wrapping his car round a tree and seriously injuring his three passengers after an ill judged overtake on Mrs Annoyingly Cautious.

Men and women are all equally capable of being bad drivers. I suppose the advert wouldn't be quite as snappy if they had to say "Women statistically make smaller insurance claimes so are a better risk, So they can save a bunch of fivers"

I complained to the ASA about this, but the bastards merely ignored my email.

I had a woman go ape at me when I said it was sexist.
"You should be happy we get something cheaper rather than being negative about it" she snapped.

In the same way your male work colleagues take home more money than you do?
End of the day its the same thing, someone has more money in the bank due to their gender.

Didn't calm her down.

I don't care if it's cheaper
Women are generally a better risk than men, they drive slower and far fewer miles than men, so as insurance goes, they're less of a risk. The fact that figures for number of accidents per miles driven could suggest that women are actually worse drivers is ignored, because that would support the tired old stereotype, so, instead, we'll introduce a new stereotype, based on our own predjudiced view of the statistics. As men we just have to shut up and take it.

I suppose
it depends how you define 'safe'. Is a woman constantly scraping and denting he car whilst trying to park dangerous at all? Maybe women have countless accidents that pose no real 'danger' to anyone, whereas men are more likely to cause serious injury or death, which probably does count as dangerous...

Women bend metal, men bend people.

Ergo
Uri Geller is a woman

This is the crux of the matter.
Women are safer. You may not like that, you may suggest that they are worse drivers [I think there may be some truth in that] -- but you cannot dispute that they are safer drivers.

And...!
Don't forget that many women are on men's insurance as additional named drivers, so any claims would be made by the male policy holder, meaning that statistically men claim more frequently than women.

That aside... I'm of the girly persuasion and have never managed to get anything near a reasonable quote from women's only insurance companies. Waste of fucking time, if you ask me.

why
dont loads of blokes sign up to sheilas wheels and fuck up the figures!

surely they cannot deny you insurance based on your todger!
(, Wed 30 Dec 2009, 16:03, closed)
You'd
have to give them your todger to be able to pay their premiums!

i fucking hate those ads

I'm as sexist as the next bloke...
...but you are talking total bollocks.

Even as a sexist, I find that trying to blame a fictitious accident on someone basically driving safely is Offensive to Women; and as they are obviously all too busy painting their nails and reading "Hello" magazine to take you to task, I will say that you are a complete dickhead on their part.

i've often wondered
about the legality of female-only insurance firms. surely if a man rang up and they refused to cover him on the grounds that he is a man that is descrimination in the eyes of the law?
