I'm off to bed.

But that was my next priority, too.
Night!

it's really terribly good
( , Wed 8 Aug 2007, 0:32, archived)

for my favourite moment in any book ever
( , Wed 8 Aug 2007, 0:42, archived)

it's where Bentley/Spielberg got the character of Quint in Jaws from?
( , Wed 8 Aug 2007, 0:51, archived)

I can't say I read him that way though...

interspersed with reading about the 1961 Luptse expedition
night all

I have wanted to read it again ever since, but lent my copy and haven't replaced it.

All books I will now never lend to anyone after my fight to get candide back

Arthur Ransome books, Enid Blyton, and HG Wells (I read The Time Machine all the way through in one day at the age of 7 - I had a weird childhood)
( , Wed 8 Aug 2007, 0:50, archived)

as that would make the figure vastly larger

I had forgotten till you reminded me of my avaricous reading
( , Wed 8 Aug 2007, 1:03, archived)

it's clearly where my insomnia started.
( , Wed 8 Aug 2007, 0:52, archived)

if it's under 300 pages, and I've got the time, I'll pretty much always read the whole thing...only problem is, you can't really remember much of the plot that way.

THE GAME THE GAME SHIT SHIIIIT I FORGOT
Might as well kill myself now.
( , Wed 8 Aug 2007, 0:32, archived)

You can't die!
Who will there be to remember if you kill yourself?

I've got awful fret buzz on the 2nd string and wondered if raising the bridge on that side of the neck just a little will cause tuning problems?
Or to summarize, should I just take it to a professional to get setup properly?
( , Wed 8 Aug 2007, 0:39, archived)

what kind of guitar is it?
If the rest of the strings are fine it's probably just a fret jutting out a little higher than the others, and it's a bit laborious but fairly simple to fix frets.
( , Wed 8 Aug 2007, 0:41, archived)

I sometimes get a little buzz on the 3rd fret but that I can handle, the 2nd string buzz is constant. As Enigmatic pointed about below it's weird it doesn't happen with the 1st string.
( , Wed 8 Aug 2007, 0:43, archived)

All I play are Les Pauls :)
It might be the saddle slidey thing* that the string is sitting on at the bridge, the string might have cut down a little deep into it.
Either that or the nut has been cut down a bit by string movement, which is unlikely, but can still happen.
I'd get it taken to a pro if it's a Gibson, you have to treat them well - and if someone's set it up really nicely, they're a wet dream to play.
*the slidey thing, y'know. Official terminology.
( , Wed 8 Aug 2007, 0:45, archived)

Appreciate the advice as it's my second but I much prefer this one, I'm giving the first to my father.
This one is a lot easier to play with my sausage hands so I want to keep some of the action but remove the fret buzz!
( , Wed 8 Aug 2007, 0:49, archived)

if they're set up nicely and the tune o matic is correct across all the strings, they're awesome bits of kit.
( , Wed 8 Aug 2007, 0:51, archived)

then fiddle with the tune-o-matic bits to make sure it's all in tune across the fretboard.
then turn it up to 11 and totally rock out dude.

So I'm almost back to stage one of learning to play again :(
I'll take it to a pro, I know someone at work who can get me it on the cheap with someone reputable. He tried making me swap my Gibson SG with an el cheapo Ibanez hollowbody. I think not my friend!
( , Wed 8 Aug 2007, 0:53, archived)

isn't there a Gibson shop in San Fran?
( , Wed 8 Aug 2007, 0:57, archived)

Guitar Center is the place to be. It's HEAVEN.
( , Wed 8 Aug 2007, 1:01, archived)

To not happen on the outer string seems weird

What are you doing up at this hour?
(obviously you've just told me 'what' you're doing, my implication was more towards finding the underlying cause of you still being up)
( , Wed 8 Aug 2007, 0:58, archived)

Hope you've got plenty of coffee/tea/Red Bull/amphetamines to keep you going.

I didn't find it as a b3ta meme.
The rules tell me to remind everyone,
besides, I'm only having a little fun.

Although there'd only be a new thread every couple of hours, but to be honest, i'd still prefer it
( , Wed 8 Aug 2007, 0:34, archived)

except by driving people out through hatred when their threads don't meet your standards. I prefer a slightly more moderate approach though.
