I was surprised by
one of George W Bushe's debates from when he was in his 40s/50s. articulate, intelligent, common sense.
when he was in power in the 00s he was a total fuckwit retard. but earlier in his career, seemed very smart and on the ball.

The first modulation of the 'Shine On' verse (g minor - f# major - bflat major) is pretty much parallel to the first modulation of that of 'Astronomy Domine' (e major - eflat major - g major).
Just one of those moments when the two faces become a candle.

global sales of popcorn have declined (albeit marginally) from 2015 to 2017.

When you barefacedly admit to and then deny things which are widely known black-and-white facts...
When you coin a term like "FAKE NEWS!" and apply it liberally to stories about yourself which are supported by hard recorded evidence...
When your entire political career is so farcical that Poe's law applies to it at all times, how can anyone make anything other than a 50/50 guess as to what is or isn't true about you?
So long as a story is humanly possible, I could happily believe it about Donald Trump.

When you start claiming you've heard both sides of a phone call and seen one of the interlocutors shrugging people start to question that. It doesn't ring true. I mean, I don't know the veracity of this author, the book could be anything from massively lies, to based on office gossip, to painstaking researched and everything crossreference with other source. That Trump acts highly irrationally as president in his daily routines is pretty common knowledge to most who pay attention to US politics, it's not really that big secret, but recent behaviour does suggest an increase in this and its interesting to speculate why. Senility or stress?

I fairly rapidly came to the conclusion that Trump didn't appear to be a smart guy. Irrational, massively conceited and easily influenced by flattery came across quite strongly. I havent really tracked his career to say whether this was always the case or that it was due advancing age-related senility. I think it says more about America that this wasn't immediately apparent when he nominated. It seems many responded to and credulously accepted his simplistic messages, and his innoculating supporters to disbelief any criticm was effective, though hardly unoriginal. Brexit already showed the way to this effectively by claiming media conspiricy. The Trump campaign merely copied.

I had a dream last night that I was in a mafia gang headed by Trump.
We were trying to communicate with an adversary over the phone before we decided to go knock the guy off. We weren't making any progress when Trump grabbed the phone and started in with his typical crude way. He was brilliant, and solved whatever it was we were trying to do. I walked away with huge respect for the guy. I might add that in the dream he was even more obese and lumpy than in real life. I can't remember more of the dream, but it had all kinds of gangster stuff going on. Haha.

TL/DR
Spectre - Completely harmless if you're the sole user of a processor, nasty in clusters/cloud computing
Meltdown - Fucking horrible and Intel are being weasels about it

Meltdown. Already patched.
Spectre. Unfixable as yet barring product recall

Not all the meltdown patches are out yet - try getting a patch on Debian for example. Also unless your AV software is confirmed to work with the Windows patches, they just won't install at all. We run Sophos and they're not planning on certifying it to work with the patch before next week.
( , Thu 4 Jan 2018, 17:29, Share, Reply)
You're fine if you're running vanilla windows and primary Linux distos AND can have downtime for patches. Otherwise meltdown is a shocker...

Not good for server environments although I hear subs are fine with it.

We're running vanilla Windows 10, with a very popular corporate AV, and last I checked Debian was a primary distribution. So yes, we're fine apart from the fact the patches aren't available.

There should be a law
that a yes/no question like "Did you authorise X" should be answered by `no` if you did not, and any other reply will be deemed to be `yes`.
Of course, after the answer, you can qualify it for example `yes but at the time I was not aware of Y`
Make it so that `I do not recall` means `yes` as well.
Give a firm and definite answer or one will be provided for you.
Only for politicians of course.

Ah, Margaret Hodge. Knowingly turned a blind eye to child abuse victims when she was a big wheel in Islington.
When one victim spoke up after she became a MP she very publicly slandered him as a loony and a liar. Utter scum. That's one way to run a country.

So unless you need to travel in rush hour the UK is okay and can be cheaper if you book in advance.
If you have to commute, you're fucked utterly.
They are indeed usually better than this.

Limiting myself to speaking about what I know: Rail travel, short or long across the Netherlands and Germany is always a fraction of the price of the UK.
...plus in germany you can buy day tickets for unlimited travel within huge regions that are as cheap as piss.

Accept a bit fucking myopic if 80% of your "investigation" focuses on off-peak.
Plymouth to London (not far off Sheffield example) is £12 advance (that is in a sale that you might only realise is on if you have fare finding alert apps up the arse), fine if booking 1 month in advance to get you into London halfway through the fucking lunch hour. Otherwise, and here is his other 85 fucking %...over £100. I would also add that the focus on London makes this a bit bias, any South-West location to midlands (e.g. Birmingham, again rough distance) is going to be more expensive. He can fuck right off back to seat 61!

I find that
driving there and back in my car works out cheaper and quicker than taking the train one way.
If I need to carry more than my phone it is always more convenient.
Public transport needs to have just one thing that makes it better than taking your car, especially if there is only one person travelling. It either needs to be more convenient, cheaper, or quicker.
It is none of the above.
If I wanted to go from Bristol to London right now on the train, it would cost me £34.80 one way (Super off peak single, Selected off-peak trains) and it would take two hours and involve a change. If I drove there and back it would cost £20 and take an hour and a half each way. If I filled my car with other people we could get there and back for just over a fiver each.
The most expensive ticket (first class, any train, any time) would cost £154.50.
I could get a return flight to Spain, with luggage, for less than that...

There are so many other reasons why train travel is shite too.
If you want the cheapest train tickets you have to go on a specific train which gives you little flexibility if plans change/meetings run over.
I don't have to stand for the entire journey in my car whilst busting for a piss.
I've never had to sit in my car with the stench of sewage seeping from an overflowing toilet.
I don't have to get out of my car to change into another car, or take a fucking bus for part of the journey.
My car doesn't go on strike, and there is no argument over who is allowed to close the doors.
I don't have to hold my farts in.
I don't have to try and avoid making eye contact with a pissed up, cross-eyed Glaswegian opposite me on the phone to his missus telling her not to let the social take their kids away...

What a bellend
Comparing the pricing for rail commuters to business flights is bollocks
1. If you fly business chances are your company will be paying for it. You don't fly business to commute
2. When flying business you will be guaranteed a seat something which many commuters dream about
3. Also flying business will probably entitle you to air miles/club points and maybe lounges, free food coffee etc. As a regular commuter you get fleeced and get fuck all in return. You see adverts for all the great savings and deals you can get but they never apply to you because you are taken for granted and shat on because you need the train to get to work to do your job. I have noticed recently that companies have been extending their peak times to stop those who might be able to work flexible hours avoiding peak travel.
Wankers.
