oven cooking is tantamount to cheating, you BBQ blaggard!

(, Tue 14 Aug 2012, 16:38, 4 replies, latest was 12 years ago)
No it isn't

(, Tue 14 Aug 2012, 16:39, Reply)
yes it is. Did cave men have ovens? NO
therefore it's cheating
(, Tue 14 Aug 2012, 16:42, Reply)
not always
I always boil ribs before marinading them for a barbecue, for instance. makes them tender and saves worrying about whether they are cooked through.

Not at all.
I've been to BBQs before where the chicken wasn't cooked through, was hideous.

I must admit, I wouldn't personally precook chicken for a barbecue
I'd just cook it properly on the barbecue, but some things can be pre-cooked
(, Tue 14 Aug 2012, 16:47, Reply)
I tend to, as it's the way I was shown when I was younger
Also, it means I can have other things on the BBQ whilst the chicken is in the oven, then it only needs 10 minutes on the BBQ.

I microwave the chicken for 3 minutes to cook the meat closest to the bone, then do the rest of the cooking outside whilst drinking beer

(, Tue 14 Aug 2012, 16:54, Reply)
Microwaves do not cook from the inside out
FACT

Then I am incorrect and not for the first time today either.

you also have salmonella

(, Tue 14 Aug 2012, 17:20, Reply)
Not yet.

(, Tue 14 Aug 2012, 17:22, Reply)
the problem is you have to pre-cook with whatever marinade you have on.
which spoils the flavour of some things. Things like ribs and sausages you can boil, cool, marinade, then barbecue. Bad idea with chicken. But, meh, swings and paedophiles.
(, Tue 14 Aug 2012, 16:58, Reply)
I only ever tend to do BBQ and hot & spicy flavour marinades, which cook nicely
Although I will concede that BBQ would work better if it was done entirely on the grill itself.
(, Tue 14 Aug 2012, 17:03, Reply)
You could maybe steam the chicken a bit? Stays moist that way.

(, Tue 14 Aug 2012, 17:08, Reply)
I agree.
Best thing is to have 2 bbq's going at different heats.
