That thread is getting boring.
What's the most exciting thing you've done this year? (apart from members of my family)

Alt: best way to BBQ a chicken? I have found that beer can chicken doesn't really taste any different to ordinary chicken.

Altalt: recommend a new website you've recently discovered.
(, Tue 14 Aug 2012, 16:27, 116 replies, latest was 12 years ago)
It's called Huntsman's Chicken, and stop putting on that geordie accent.

(, Tue 14 Aug 2012, 16:34, Reply)
Says someone who used to throw the chicken away and just have the beer.

Beercan Chicken is Awesome!
I've done beercan chicken with a good real ale and its really good. You need to use the right level in the can and BBQ at the right temp. I have pics if anyone is interested...
(, Tue 14 Aug 2012, 16:35, Reply)
I'll look at pictures
could I shove a bottle of buckie up that chicken's poop shoot?
(, Tue 14 Aug 2012, 16:36, Reply)
I have tried many variations; different beers, volumes of beer, different temperatures, BBQ, oven, nothing seems to really make a difference.

(, Tue 14 Aug 2012, 16:37, Reply)
You'll only mod them out.

Chop it up into breasts, legs and wings and marinade in something spicy and sweet. Then oven cook for 30-40 mins and finish off on the coals with the lid down for extra smokeyness

(, Tue 14 Aug 2012, 16:38, Reply)
No it isn't

(, Tue 14 Aug 2012, 16:39, Reply)
yes it is. Did cave men have ovens? NO
therefore it's cheating
(, Tue 14 Aug 2012, 16:42, Reply)
not always
I always boil ribs before marinading them for a barbecue, for instance. makes them tender and saves worrying about whether they are cooked through.
(, Tue 14 Aug 2012, 16:43, Reply)
Not at all.
I've been to BBQs before where the chicken wasn't cooked through, was hideous.
(, Tue 14 Aug 2012, 16:43, Reply)
I must admit, I wouldn't personally precook chicken for a barbecue
I'd just cook it properly on the barbecue, but some things can be pre-cooked
(, Tue 14 Aug 2012, 16:47, Reply)
I tend to, as it's the way I was shown when I was younger
Also, it means I can have other things on the BBQ whilst the chicken is in the oven, then it only needs 10 minutes on the BBQ.
(, Tue 14 Aug 2012, 16:52, Reply)
I microwave the chicken for 3 minutes to cook the meat closest to the bone, then do the rest of the cooking outside whilst drinking beer

(, Tue 14 Aug 2012, 16:54, Reply)
Microwaves do not cook from the inside out
FACT
(, Tue 14 Aug 2012, 17:14, Reply)
Then I am incorrect and not for the first time today either.

(, Tue 14 Aug 2012, 17:16, Reply)
you also have salmonella

(, Tue 14 Aug 2012, 17:20, Reply)
Not yet.

(, Tue 14 Aug 2012, 17:22, Reply)
the problem is you have to pre-cook with whatever marinade you have on.
which spoils the flavour of some things. Things like ribs and sausages you can boil, cool, marinade, then barbecue. Bad idea with chicken. But, meh, swings and paedophiles.
(, Tue 14 Aug 2012, 16:58, Reply)
I only ever tend to do BBQ and hot & spicy flavour marinades, which cook nicely
Although I will concede that BBQ would work better if it was done entirely on the grill itself.
(, Tue 14 Aug 2012, 17:03, Reply)
You could maybe steam the chicken a bit? Stays moist that way.

(, Tue 14 Aug 2012, 17:08, Reply)
I agree.
Best thing is to have 2 bbq's going at different heats.

I'll be honest, my BBQ skills are well average if we're talking about just the meat, I need the marionades and sauces to tart it up.
It's not 'bad' chicken, when I do plain, it's just average. I know all the machanics about putting the coals on one side to create zones and all that, but I just can't beat a fat Turk... must be something in their tit-sweat.

Cockfosters is really weird, there are loads of bijou type niche places where you'd spend thousands on a side-light, but then they're about to open up a sainsburies on the high street.
