R.I.P. Poons
It is my sad duty to inform you that Poons (who also went by the name Dave Halligan and shamelessly plugged his battle with depression and alcohol addiction here on b3ta/links) left us on Saturday 30th May 2009, never to return.
His last post to b3ta/links is here.

I never knew Poons (Dave) personally
But have been following his blog since it's creation. There were times it looked like things were on the up.
Sad news, rest in peace Dave.

I can't get on your blog at work,
what happened? His last post on his site seems worryingly prophetic

a link if you have access to Facebook

It appears that he ended his own life within hours of making that last post. I read it as grim humour posted when he was (once again) entertaining the notion of suicide, but not yet settled on it.

Thats really sad
he seemed to have a bit of a sense of humour about his situation, but I suppose its easy enough to come across that way.

I fell off the wagon this weekend, it's a long hard process to deal with and a combination of depression and alcoholism is never a good one. good on him for his honesty and courage, rest in peace Mr.Poons

damnit, that is really sad to hear :(
R.I.P mr Poons... i too have been afflicted with severe depression and alcoholism. getting there slowly, but as i am sure he would tell you, it's bloody hard. i read his original blog post back when i was a lurker and left a comment, it takes quite a lot to admit to having a problem and i admired him for that. sad indeed.

That is awful news.
We were gazzing and he seemed to be doing so well.
EDIT: As some of you didn't know the man, I'd like to offer a personal tribute, as I knew him a little. As well as a B3tan, Dave was a subscriber to my 'Tube channel. When he posted his Blog I got in touch to offer my support, for what it was worth. Within a short time we had exchanged telephone numbers at his request, although we never did ring each other. But we did message and he ended up helping me through the death of my father. I'd love to quote from his messages to show you what a warm and generous man he was, but I think I will keep them to myself. I shall certainly keep them forever.
We discussed his demons and I really thought we were getting there, though it is never an easy road. I don't know what happened in the final week; my messages were not replied to. I merely know this: In the short time I knew Dave he proved himself as a caring, giving, but vulnerable man. And to face his demons as he did, he was also very brave. I'm so sorry they got the better of him in the end. Rest In Peace Dave; they can't hurt you now.

I only know him from seeing his name on /links, and it's sad to think that I wont see his name on /links again - which seems a strange thing to say
I hope his friends and family can take some comfort from seeing how many people he seemed to have touched via b3ta and his blog.

well, bugger.
i followed his blog as i was going through a similar process. I remember when he started it shoved me through the next couple of days and i'm glad to say i now drink like a normal person not like the fiend i was. Poons had a part to play in that without a doubt.
To him, and his family and friends, i salute him and wish them well.
