Looks pretty good
But i reckon game support will be hard to come by, as it looks like the game has to be rendered far outside the area you see on the screen, meaning it will break some games due to coding / processing power / whatever.

If it's for a next gen machine though, could be feasible...

Yeah true,
though they have a next gen kinect in the works also I assume...

The extended display
could probably be lower res since it's just going to be projected by a crap LED projector all over your yukka plant, so maybe not too bad.

Not sure if I'd like this...
or just spaz out and have a seizure from it?
Would definitely make a selling point though, kids would go ape for it.

It seems to be the general concensus that the future of videogames is to use biometric data.
Eye tracking seems to be the most popular one, also pulse/stress monitoring.

This vid seems to show
the projector automatically mapping to the shape of your room, then the whole system doing augmented reality stuff (the edges of the bookshelves pulsating in time to explosions etc) it's all software design really.
Current expensive projectors can be set up manually to map to geometry, and old 3-gun CRT ones could do automatic self alignment and convergence by the time they became obsolete. But this whole automatically-mapping-to-the-shape-of-your-room and it's contents does not seem to be quite available yet.

3D mapping is what the Kinect does.
If you took a couple of scans with it (pointing it in all directions) you could quickly build a 360 model of the room. The XBOX can then use that data to correctly distort the projected image, assuming it knows where the projector is.

This looks amazing...
Doesn't matter if the projection around the screen is low-res, it's all about getting you immersed in the game. I want this now.

I was ready to call this a stupid idea
as I've a friend with one of those tellys that illuminates the wall behind with coloured light and it's just an annoying distraction.
This seems like it could be awesome. One of the main problems with games like Gran Turismo is that you've effectively got tunnel vision. Any form of peripheral vision in that game would be a massive advantage.

some of the effects work, the snowflakes, sparks and so forth
but a lot of the explosions, wall and track drawing looks incredibly distracting and migraine inducing

Why not get
a bigger screen and sit a bit closer?
'Tis nice and stuff, but I reckon the real future lies in big fuck off 8k screens.

4k...
...it's apparently the limit of human perception.
I'm struggling to see what this actually is. 3d? Projector? Bad acid?

why would we want the periphery all over the furniture?

Peripheral vision is remarkably good at giving you your position
Which in something like a shooter or racing game would be really useful. Actually where I see it being most useful would be in something like the new Elite.
