Its not actually a 'trailer' in the usual sense. Its 'viral marketing'. Its a fake news report of the events that take place in (or lead up to) the movie. It won't be a shaky cam movie.

Similar to the Prometheus Weyland Yutani 'advert'...

I like scanlines as much as the next man but we're in the LCD / L.E.D world now
and even if you were still keeping the CRT dream alive those lines were fucking mahoosive.

However if that's the look you want then investigate HLSL

Guillermo del Toro has done some stunning films.
I'm not sure about this though, it looks awful, given his reputation i'm actually quite surprised, especially on the visuals front.

Scanlines on news reports with today's HD technology?
Digital cameras breaking up due to what? Electrical noise? Are these monsters giving off EMP radiation?

I love Cloverfield but it was handled, more or less, about right. This seems very tacky a bit too much like Battle Los Angeles - the Meh is strong with this one. I'd really appreciate a well done Cthulhu end-of-the-world type film if they ditched the crappy fake news reportage. Yes I realise the crappy fake news reportage was in Cloverfield but it wasn't over done with the scanlines.
