but I think a "this is spam" button would be really great; require, say, five or more individual clicks before a post is deleted or hidden, much like any Youtube comments page. This way we can prevent longer thread replies to spam posts as opposed to genuinely good posts by the few good Samaritans simply clicking "spam" rather than posting "you suck lolol."

Very similar to the jokes on the Sickipedia front page, no less.
Good idea :)

and if you want to guard against abuse of this, grant the power to use this button only to those who have been site members for longer than 2 months or so, or who have at least 200 posts or some such arbitrary threshold.
this or having a mod on board more often would be very helpful.

record the users that have clicked on the spam button.
This allows discipline of a user that persistantly clicks on acceptable posts, simply because they do not like the post/poster/etc.

or number of posts - I'd say you get the "This is Spam!" button only after you have donated and recieved a b3ta icon - that seems a fair way to define who is serious about b3ta and who is retarded who might spam the spam button ;)

others have made sensible comments too, both in favour and against muu's suggestion. i hate spam and trolls quite a bit so i'd kill them if i could, but i understand the soft-hands approach.
bah, the b3tan overlords will do as they wish.

I suggest that code could also be added to the User Profile to "Allow spam flagged content" or "hide spam flagged content" where after 5 individual b3ta members (not L-platers) have clicked to flag it as spam thereby giving some control back to the individual.

decides to move en mass toward a particular post on /board as they sometimes do?
edit: actually, I say let them, the ones that would abuse it would just be giving a good excuse to ban them
