This is a question Karma

Sue Denham writes, "I once slipped out of work two hours early without the boss noticing. In my hurry to make the most of this petty victory, I knocked myself out on the car door and spent the rest of the day semi-conscious, bowking rich brown vomit over my one and only suit."

Have you been visited by the forces of Karma, or watched it happen to other people?

Thanks to Pooflake for the suggestion

plane woes
You'd be surprised, neither budget companies, nor 'reputable' ones can get it right.

Flown to Canada 3 times in the last 2 years. First time was delayed by 5 hours, due to technical fault - budget airline

Second time only about an hour delay, but chewing gum on seat, again budget airline.

Determined not to be screwed about a third time by a budget company, the third time, flew with BA, who were, oddly enough, offering cheaper flights than the budget companies. You guessed it, 5 hour delay.

This is karmic retribution for us polluting the environment/creating holes in o-zone layer/general other greenpeace schpiel by flying.

Thankfully I didn't have to go through it a fourth time, gave up entirely, and stayed in Canada.

Planes
don't make holes in the ozone layer. Fridges do (though they shouldn't any more).

Frankly all the furore over air travel is misguided; land use is the biggest problem, if we stopped burning forests we'd be ok on the global warming front.

*Makes note to start flying more*
*Stops cutting down trees and burning them in the back garden*

I feel your pain
I took over 20 flights to/from Canada last year.
flew with Zoom and Air Canada.

Zoom were awful, truly awful.
Air Canada were leagues better, but still crap leg room i have to say.

Who were you flying with?

does Southwest go that far north?
We don't have many options around here unless you go waaaay out of your way to catch a different airline.

no, i'm not planning on going to canada. yes, I'm really *that* bored.

The problem with anthropogenic global warming
is that it will never go away because the human population is increasing so rapidly.

However, bird flu has the potential to kill a goodly chunk of the population should it mutate into a form which is transmissible between humans. If you believe the scaremongers, at least.

So it may yet be the salvation of the planet. So long as I don't catch it, or indeed any of you other b3tards, of course!

No leg room in Air Canada?
Nonsense! I could have housed a family of five in the room they gave me for my legs.

Plus, the beautiful moment when the drinks trolley came around. As I was getting my money out for the alcohol;

"Oh no, they're complimentary sir."

!!!!!!!

Air Canada wins all the internets.

Then again, i am 6ft 3 :-)

I agree, the free drinks were awesome!
If you fly to ottawa on AC889, the leg room sucks becuase it's an old plane, but if you fly to toronto you get the nice new shiny boeing 777 which is leagues better!

(Just dont fly to montreal! the scary french canadians...)

p.s my girlfriend is french canadian so im allowed to say that :)

@Axai
First was Zoom, second MyTravel.

Flown AC a couple of times too though, when doing cross-country trips, can't honestly think of anything bad to say really.

Leg room isn't honestly much of a concern to me, considering I'm hobbit sized, and don't have much leg.

@Musuko
Fair enough then.

That being said, they all got me from A to B which is really what matters... no sudden decompressions or anything.

(Although, one time on AC889 we suffered cabin pressure failure and had to fly low altitude all the way to canada... there were many more time like this but i'm still here!)

@flirting w/ badgers
Nope, Southwest only operates in the continental US. The closest they go to Canada are:
BC: Seattle
Ontario: Detroit, Buffalo
Maritimes: Manchester, NH (not that close)
Alberta, Manitoba, or Saskatchewan: nowhere remotely close

@StuMoo
Interesting point. I also recently heard that putting out the various uncontained underground coal fires (such as the one in Centralia, Pennsylvania - www.offroaders.com/album/centralia/centralia.htm) would curb greenhouse gas emissions more than anything we could do to our cars. I wonder if there is any truth to that...
(, Wed 27 Feb 2008, 16:42, closed)
yeah probably,
but putting out those kind of fires is pretty much impossible.

The best reason I see for making transport of the non-oil burning variety is that oil is becoming ludicrously expensive ($102/barrel at this time) and it's only going to get worse.

Looks like global warming is going to happen whatever we do (we can do stuff to make it less bad), although luckily it hasn't been of the 'runaway' variety and global temperature has been stable for 10 years.
