Have any of you been called up for jury service.
If so how did you manage to get out of it*

If not would you like to serve on a jury?

*I already know how monty got out of it. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2200948/Juror-tells-judge-try-cases-extreme-views.html

I've been called up three times 'cos I'm old
First time got out of it 'cos the company I was working at was going into administration and they wrote a nice letter for me saying I was too important to lose for a fortnight.

Second time I did it and it was a pretty fkin dull two weeks.

Third time I was moving house 100 miles away from the court.

So if you want to get out of it either lose your job or move house.

Hope this helps xx

Both Homer Simpson and Larry David were successful using this method on TV
You could also try claming to be psychic.

I've never done it, but I'd like to. Sounds interesting.

Just told them I was the primary carer for my son.
they'll never call me back up again!
(, Tue 11 Sep 2012, 10:11, Reply)
never been called up even though I'm old
If I was I'd probably want to get out of it, from what I've been told by friends who've done jury service it's arse-chewingly boring, underpaid and bloody inconvenient.
(, Tue 11 Sep 2012, 10:13, Reply)
I'd do it, but I'd take huge quantities of LSD to add to the thrill of it all.

OH GOD HERE WE GO AGAIN
do you only operate on a rewards based system like a dog or summit

We'll have to agree to disagree Rory.
If you want to give away your time for nothing, so be it. I, on the other hand, don't.

I pissed myself when I read that story this morning.
Never been called up to date, I'd rather enjoy it I think.
(, Tue 11 Sep 2012, 10:13, Reply)
I'd quite like to be called up for jury service.
It'd make a change from work.
(, Tue 11 Sep 2012, 10:13, Reply)
Yes.
I didn't bother trying to escape. I rather enjoyed passing summary justice. The jury was 8 women, two of whom were quite fit, to four men, the other three of whom were in their late 50s.

I had three weeks off work, and generally got to get up late and get home early - the hours were (approximately) 10am - 3pm. They were considerate that they didn't want to overload our little brains.

Which was nice.

Never been called. Dunno, at least the guy was being honest.
Do you get paid for jury service, or is it just expenses?
The Fonz was on jury service, he played it waaayyy cool, and got the guy acquited.
(, Tue 11 Sep 2012, 10:17, Reply)
Expenses. We got £5 a day for lunch, I think, which was on a card that could only be used in the bloody canteen (which was awful).
I think they do petrol/train fare too.
(, Tue 11 Sep 2012, 10:20, Reply)
You can even claim back expenses for riding there on a bike

(, Tue 11 Sep 2012, 10:22, Reply)
Pffft. What
A sports bar, isotonic drink, and a copy of "Lycra-clad dickhead weekly".
(, Tue 11 Sep 2012, 10:31, Reply)
Mileage, amazingly enough
One of the lads from work did it a few weeks ago
(, Tue 11 Sep 2012, 10:32, Reply)
I can get that at work.
it's to pay for wear and tear on the bike and replacement parts.
Mostly it's to free up a carparking space at the site.
(, Tue 11 Sep 2012, 10:34, Reply)
How much is it, out of interest?

(, Tue 11 Sep 2012, 10:35, Reply)
20p-25p a mile I think.

(, Tue 11 Sep 2012, 10:35, Reply)
That would be about a fiver a day for me if they did it here.
Hm.
(, Tue 11 Sep 2012, 10:38, Reply)
Jury service pays 9.6p/mile for cycle usage

(, Tue 11 Sep 2012, 10:46, Reply)
I've been called up twice
The first I think I dodged because I was on holiday.

Second time I went along 4 days in a row and we all got sent home each day. I spent more time getting into the court and back home than I did in the court building. Fucking shambles. I'm amazed how anyone actually ends up in prison. Fuck knows how they're overcrowded.
(, Tue 11 Sep 2012, 10:19, Reply)
I got out of it by studying for three years and then qualifying as a registered health professional.

(, Tue 11 Sep 2012, 10:23, Reply)

I've never been called up.
No, I don't think I want to be on a jury.
(, Tue 11 Sep 2012, 10:29, Reply)
it's easy, you just make your mind up before hand if they're guilty or not and take the free lunch.

(, Tue 11 Sep 2012, 10:34, Reply)
When my Grandad did it there was one bloke who was all:
"I fink he dunnit"
"Why?"
"I dunno...alright then, he NEVER dunnit"
"Oh shit"
(, Tue 11 Sep 2012, 10:35, Reply)
that sounds terrible..

(, Tue 11 Sep 2012, 10:37, Reply)
Yeah
My Grandad was pretty sure he'd done it too, but he was offended by how quick this guy was to just make a snap decision based on nothing at all. If I'm ever in court I hope to god this guy isn't in the jury.
(, Tue 11 Sep 2012, 10:38, Reply)
that's pretty sad - the guy probably just didn't care whether or not the person was guilty.

(, Tue 11 Sep 2012, 10:41, Reply)
I have to say, I don't either.

(, Tue 11 Sep 2012, 10:46, Reply)
Probably safer just to lock 'em all up.

(, Tue 11 Sep 2012, 10:47, Reply)
Or gas 'em.

(, Tue 11 Sep 2012, 10:53, Reply)
No, I don't think he did care
He was probably just happy having a nice day out and a couple of free meals
(, Tue 11 Sep 2012, 10:59, Reply)
That does sound rather pleasant, when you put it like that.

(, Tue 11 Sep 2012, 11:00, Reply)
I will literally do or say anything for a free meal

No I haven't.
Yes I would.

HTH xx

Obviously Foggsy's positive thread still has the no.1 spot.
