This is the time to tell you - yes, YOU - that I'm fucked off with computer stuff
It appears that I've managed to delete 6 months worth of work and this is because I have hoofs rather than hands and enough IT knowledge to work b3ta only.

When I was at school "computers" were regarded as about the same as Domestic Science (cooking).

In short - I'm a fucking mongy.

I have an adjusting tool with a hickory shaft.

Have you tried just turning it off and remembering what you've lost?

Also, if it's your workplace they should have a decent backup regime in place, meaning you will have lost 24 hours work not 6 months.
If it's your home computer, just imagine that I posted a massive image of Nelson from The Simpsons.

There are data recovery services out there, you know.
Just don't do anything else with the hard drive in the meantime or you could overwrite the bit they need. So no emptying your recycle bin of all that PTHC.
