I spent my first student loan cheque on a Fender Stratocaster
But that was neither payday, nor stupid. Sorry

I spent my first student loan on a pair of Technics SL1210s.
I do still have them in the loft, but think I might put them on ebay soon. Bit tragic being into all that in your 30s isn't it?

Yeah I did this with my first student loan - a 12-string acoustic from Johnny Roadhouse in Manchester.

Genuine guitar question
Are 12 strings not a massive fuck on to string and keep in tune?

Not really, you tune in pairs. I takes longer to string them but again, you do it in pairs so its no hassle
I fucking love my 12 string

My Rickenbacker is an absolute ballache to do, on account of it having a very nice looking R-shaped bit at the bridge end
However, my local guitar shop does a restringing service for a couple of pounds so I never have to bother doing it myself.
Tuning is easy because I am not a spastic.
