We've all seen those 'I have a problem in the real words, what should I do? Oh I know I'll ask a load of internet geeks' posts
This is slightly different.
My best friend and house mate Charlie has just made a terrifying suggestion.
For several months, whenever we've had a bit of spare time in the evenings after work, we have been watching our way through all of Star Trek TNG.
We have almost finished.
Charlie has suggested that when its over, we should instead of watching a TV series, play
World of WarcraftI have been a vocal opponent of WoW for some time, I don't know what to do, secretly I know I'd really enjoy the autistic thrill of MMORPGs but the part of me that is still not a crusty internerd says
'don't do it'Decide for me b3ta, should I play WoW?

Very sensible.
I think it'd be fun, but just remember to draw the curtains every other 12 hours.

This.
Try playing it, and if you enjoy it, keep playing it.
Why would a stereotype of crusty internerds keep you from doing something you enjoy?

This is what I'm doing.
I don't find it addictive, I only play a couple of hours every other day.
I prefer Mirror's Edge at the moment.

I don't understand why MMORPGs are fun.
You could just go be social with people... like... in a pub or a club or something.

Its not as though Charlie and I don't do these things
but there is a period maybe twice a week, when we are both knackered and enjoy sitting down and being geeky.

I love it. It's great fun.
It's very geeky, and not for everyone.
You need to put a fair bit of time into it; but if you enjoy it then it's not usually an issue.

i'm going to try and get back into gaming when i get around to upgrading my pc
but I think WOW would require too much of my time to get into and I don't really have the time to spare right now

don't do it
With a TV series, you at least get a natural break every half hour. With WoW, you sit down to play for "a bit before dinner" when you get in from work at, what, 6pm? and before you know it, it's 5am, you have to leave for work in three hours, and you haven't slept, drunk, eaten or urinated in that time.

no, you should play guild wars then perfect world ease yourself in gently before trying world of warcraft. then get a thermos flask and a pair of sandcastles or flip flops.
