This is a question Bugs and feature requests

Found a problem on B3ta? Want other features that we don't currently offer? Type your ideas here with your finger-mouths. (We don't promise we'll act on any of it, but we will read it and your words could even prompt us into action.)

Can you? I'm not having any joy with google nor b3ta features.

Remember when the image challenge had a popular page throughout the challenge?
You used to be able to see how images were doing in the rankings as the challenge progressed.

I think it would be really cool if in challenge posts you could see the current rank of the image (maybe in the top corner or something) so you can see how images are doing in the compo.

Where's the 'i like this' button gone for closed questions?

As with most the answers on this,
QOTW is getting pretty shite and a vote feature would be nice. Probablty the only reason I became a member of b3ta was for posting QOTW replies, but I can't seem to think of anything for the recent ones. A vote on them would be luffly.
b3ta still rocks.
rob is quite sexy.
I am sexier.

ahh gleeballs.
I second everything that Gleeballs said about seconding Legless..

I've said it elsewhere ... and other people are clammering for it (i LOVE that word) ... but please pwiddy pwease can we have a "Shite answer" button...

I also have posted less and less these days .... and am awaiting a question like "I once ate a squid that was partucularly rubbery... tell us YOUR stories about rubbery squid eating experiences" in order to confirm the narrowness of the field.

Oh... howabout... "I once accidentally dropped an egg, and it broke. Tell us about YOUR egg breaking experiences"... I've got a cracker waiting for that one.

Right: Time for an arm-breaker and a pint.

Che Grimsdale
Yay, one person missed me! Woooo. I'm flattered. Might post this week as a result. Anyway, only the 'best' page of finished QOTW's is in order. If you check the first page after its finished the fucktards congratulating themselves on being first and yet posting nothing worthwhile are still there. This is not just the amazing coincidence that no one clicked 'I like this'.

Hey overmods. If there was an option to post replies to individual posts, this wouldn't be here (insert inane smiley face here)! Just saying....

feel free to delete out some of the utterly irrelevant shit that has been posted in this qotw thread
so that just actual features, bug reports are posted

even though I am guilty!

include an underline HTML tag in posts
we have strikethrough, bold and italic, it seems as though underline is really missing out!

also, perhaps just one emphasis tag for slightly bigger text - not the full spectrum of [h] tags, perhaps just [h1]

I don't like this button seems popular
also if the poster could see stats for who liked and who disliked each image you post, or just how many votes it gets. It'd be like market research for creating future images.
(, Fri 10 Nov 2006, 11:36, Reply)
How about
increasing the image width from 280 pixels to 300 ? imagine what those extra 20 pixels would mean! it would be like a whole new world.

Also, buy that person a pint button for posts we like ?

Finally, giant Camels with Lazer beams on their head.

Would it be possible to have most of the basic
links from the top of the board i.e. Post a new message, Popular etc

Also at the bottom as it's a pain having to scroll all the way back up to the top.

Cheers

I missed you darling Gleeballs,
...and I want Cap'n Hood-Butter back too! I hope he's on a secret mercenary mission to darkest Middlesborough or something.

Anyway, same as the rest: 'I don't much like this' which would lead to a 'Page of Shame'.

Is it possible to vote for a posting twice? I've never tried (smug aren't I), but if it is, it shouldn't be - especially with an 'I don't like this' option. People can be so vindictive.

EDIT: Oh yes, and would it be at all possible for the new QOTW to be posted at roughly the same time each week, say, 3.30pm Thursday? I'm not one for 'Yay! I got the first post'-ing, but this would allow me to get SOME work done on Thursday afternoons!

EDIT II: You know after a QOTW has finished, and the most popular are at the front, are all the rest ranked by popularity too, or is it just the first page?

Listen to Legless
Hey overmods, just to say I agree with absolutely everything that Legless already posted www.b3ta.com/questions/bugs_and_feature_requests/post65028/ (including giving him his bloody name back!). He's one of your most frequent posters and has been around for ages so speaks for all your 'old skool' QOTW answerers, like me. On top of that I've got just one suggestion about the subject of the QOTW. Again I totally agree with Legless, I've pretty much stopped posting cause I'm either struggling to come up with answers to a really narrow question or I've already answered a very similar question, so let us have control! I know you won't want to give this power up, so I suggest a compromise: take, say, 3 of the most popular suggested questions from the 'What should we ask...' section and come up with, say, 2 of your own ideas to make a shortlist. Then when someone posts an answer to the QOTW they are automatically given one vote to decide which of the five we have the following week (one vote per person, not one per answer though). Easy. The result is no more bitching about the question, people have an opportunity to put a weeks thought into their answer for the following question and you're guaranteed good stories as the people who have to actually post the answers will vote for questions they have good stories for. And if you're so damn desperate to have stories about dentists you can leave the shortlist the same four that didn't get chosen and just add a new one in case you managed to come up with five brilliant suggestions at once.

Pretty please? The QOTW is starting to turn into the bastard child of b3ta. All unloved and ignored when for my money its the funniest part of the site.

Swear filter
I think this would be helpful to a lot of people that read the board at work. Besides, I always got a kick out of the interesting use of the word "cranberry", and my sister and I occasionally use that term for one another.

You could possibly (assuming it's not too difficult to manage) allow each user to choose whether to have the swear filter turned on.

robtoo edit: there actually already is a swear filter you can turn on in your profile settings, although it doesn't have cranberries or watermelons as yet

Some way of friending users you talk to a lot?
I reckon it'd be too Myspaz and not a lot of people would go for it, but perhaps some people would. If only you and the other person could see it, it hopefully wouldn't feel like such a popularity contest as LJ or Myspaz or something.

Bug challenge
I'd like to see a challenge based around insects and bugs. Everything's so damn furry and fluffy on here.

BMP blocking
Maybe automatically block bmp's. It's not that I mind them much - it's the dull flaming that happens afterwards.

You could also maybe put a warning if an image goes above 250Kb (or whatever) for similar reasons.

COMPO MY LINKS PAGE
I think it would be awfully spiffing to put a compo on the links page. A common theme, or anything that does not involve youtube should be interesting. The best 80s advert, or the worst most cheesiest pop tune. Or even the best 'i made this' (not includind magical trev, cause he will always win hands down). Hell, the /board have an 'i made this' compo every week. Anything really,as long as its funny and interesting. Just a thought.

now click 'i like this' you bunch of cunts. Ta.

Google Button
How about someone code a button for the Google Toolbar for B3TA?
(, Thu 9 Nov 2006, 19:55, Reply)
a thread-minimiser
maybe a minus button on the left, to hide replies to a thread. maybe have it turn into a plus button afterwards, to toggle it on and off. also, regarding replying to QOTWs, maybe replies could be indented under the original thread, instead of appearing at the top?

A 'best ever links' page
Like the popular links page but with date not a factor in the algorithm, just votes.

I thought it could be a good way of keeping all our all-time favourite links within easy grasp :)

I seem to recall a
'discuss this weeks newsletter here' page a few years ago, but then never came back. Useful for broken links, prime suckage and top scores for games of the week.

Another version of 'I say potato', although thats not upto b3ta.

The b3ta/virgin fiasco also made private eye this month. Woo!
(, Thu 9 Nov 2006, 16:10, Reply)
oh yes
a "this sucks" button (but not on my posts please) and a "i like this" total would rock!

Don't want to reinvent the wheel, but...
Could the talk board be organised so that its easier to follow a conversation? Maybe just by organising every reply for the same topic in the same colour or something.
However, i spose if it aint b0rked, don't fix it
