(, Wed 5 May 2010, 9:54, archived)
# I'm kind of concerned
that by voting at all the implication is that we're okay with politicians and what it is they do... you can guarantee that Friday morning will have someone on the telly bragging about how the decisive action of the GREAT British people is a glowing endorsement for their colour of self serving feckless tosspot over the other colours of self serving feckless tosspot...

# Someone needs to drop his ring-piece into a burning hot volcano quick, and don't send the Hobbits they take fucking ages!
:D
(, Wed 5 May 2010, 9:13, archived)
# ha ha!
I agree entirely. perhaps clamped into the powerful beak of a giant eagle...
(, Wed 5 May 2010, 9:15, archived)
# Although in all fairness the Eagle theory is great but Manwe the Valar
who was the God of Air and also controlled the Eagles would not have allowed the Eagles to carry the ring as it would have been seen as a direct intervention by the Valar who at this stage after the battle against Morgoth were determined that Men and Elves should find their own solution - so maybe a big catapult was in order?
(, Wed 5 May 2010, 9:20, archived)
# I'm sorry
but I have been stunned into cowering silence by the sheer tectonic power of your lore.

therefore I agree. a catapult. or a team of butterflies, harnessed...
(, Wed 5 May 2010, 9:24, archived)
# To-day I haz bin mostly reading "Unfinished Tales" (JRR Tolkien edited by Christophen Tolkien)
Also the Silmarillion - This is my Lore and it is Strong!
(, Wed 5 May 2010, 9:29, archived)
# wow :)
decades ago I was given the Silmarillion, and upon reading the first page a spell of "Perhaps later" came upon me. it has never been lifted.
(, Wed 5 May 2010, 9:33, archived)
# Well it does have that sort of effect
at first try I couldn't keep up with all the names and events being fired at me - but after re-reading LotR, The Hobbit plus watching the DVDs and of course coming across The Encyclopedia of Arda it started to make more sense.

There are however massive holes in Tolkien lore he himself often get's muddled and therefore the likes of Galadriel and Celeborn get's a very mixed up history from various version of their lineage and no definitive guide is ever given to which Elf race Celeborn belongs etc.

I'll shut up now.
(, Wed 5 May 2010, 9:43, archived)
# poor Celeborn
he seems to get a raw deal

I bet Galadriel makes him do the dishes and the hoovering
(, Wed 5 May 2010, 9:45, archived)
# "Celeborn where is my dinner!?"
"It's in the fridge dearest, can you get it I'm just fixing my elf makeup and hair for tonight's do!"

"FUCKING LEMBAS AGAIN!"
(, Wed 5 May 2010, 9:51, archived)
# I love the Silmarillion
but then I've also been known to read the Prose Edda and Mabinogion for fun, so my recommendation may not be the most reliable.

(I've also been known to read both Unfinished Tales and also quite a few of the History of Middle Earth books. Morgoth's Ring and War of the Jewels are the best of them, that's the stuff he culled the Silmarillion out of.)

(Fuck me I'm a nerd.)
(, Wed 5 May 2010, 10:05, archived)
# I know, I know
as I was writing the Eagle reply I was thinking "This is completely Nerd on all levels" yet I could not help myself I'm like the Incredible Nerd - "Don't quote me, you wouldn't like me when I'm quoted!"
(, Wed 5 May 2010, 10:26, archived)
# Ah well. We're happy.
Plus, you've reminded me that I need to read Unfinished Tales again.
(, Wed 5 May 2010, 10:38, archived)
# Did you not finish it?
haha
(, Wed 5 May 2010, 10:42, archived)
# You deserve pain for that
(I did lose my copy of the Book of Lost Tales, if that's any help? It was shit, I didn't miss it very much. I didn't even finish it.)
(, Wed 5 May 2010, 10:51, archived)
# plus the eagles were massive
and so would have been obvious targets, especially since sauron would have known that for them to be involved it would have to be some important mission. and there's no guarantee that the eagles would have been able to resist using the ring themselves, playing right into the dark lord's hands.
(, Wed 5 May 2010, 9:53, archived)
# Like I said last night, the only good thing to come of a Tory government would be musicians and comedians having good material
But likewise it runs the significant risk that Ben Elton will do a nostalgia gig.

# aye
that was the picture that triggered the whole thing, in fact. gives me the shivers...
(, Wed 5 May 2010, 9:28, archived)
# If the opinion polls are anything to go by
It'll be a hung parliament anyway - and fuck face Brown will remain PM - so you have to decide, what sucks more - I'll be happy if anyone other than Brown gets back in. Fuck Labour
