[challenge entry] We are being absolutely hammered by Man U :(

Also, I'm fed up with madasafish as a broadband provider, are Virgin and their current advertising campaign all they make it out to be?

Good challenge. I happen to dislike Fletcher a lot and don't want to see him in the final but he'll get that card overturned on appeal. Ref is missing a lot now.

as for Virgin - I've had a lot of problems with them... Service cutting out, speed WAY lower than it should be...
(, Tue 5 May 2009, 21:08, archived)
# Cool
I'm having problems with connection because i've exceeded my monthly usage yet again; I have repeatedly told them i'm happy to pay for any excess. I just spent two grand on another camera earlier tonight, it's not as if i'm skint for christ sake

thanks for that bit of info
(, Tue 5 May 2009, 21:23, archived)
# you won't get better service anywhere else.
I have it on authority that BT's is much, much worse.
If you must stay on ADSL then Aquiss is the provider of choice.

# virgin are shit
old cable setups
oversubscribed MUX (mini exchanges/green cabinets on street)
some areas which can only get tv through the old 0's style rediffusion networks (milton keynes for example)
areas which can only get analouge tv,
oh and the worst "fiber optial service" ever. i have a virgin box and i see no fiber optics.
oh, and they havent taken payment from me for 8 months, allthough they say there getting paid monthly. (i dont remember £90 coming from my bank account a few days back)

can you tell i dont like them,
(, Tue 5 May 2009, 21:16, archived)
# Yes, but they have all the cable, don't they?
I mean there isn't any other UK cable internet provider. Unless I'm hopelessly out of date. Which I am, I'm still on dialup.
(, Tue 5 May 2009, 21:18, archived)
# errm
smallworld media still operate in the uk and ireland.
and there is still rediffusion in hull, and houghton regis which i'm informed both work if your still connected at roof level.
(, Tue 5 May 2009, 21:25, archived)
# oh
and BT own the following parts of the virgin network

Westminster
stevanage
milton keynes (gifford park and surrounding area)
(, Tue 5 May 2009, 21:32, archived)
# It's
fibre to the cabinet Einstein. The same fibre to the cabinet that BT are proposing to upgrade the ADSL network to, in the next 15 years.
(, Tue 5 May 2009, 21:21, archived)
# i know,
but the way the adverts bleat on about it i know of a lot of people still awaiting there "fiber" to be installed, where undertrained engineers come out with excuses like
"you only get fiber after 6 months, so vigin can make sure your good for your money"

i've seen it loads before working on cablehell.co.uk
(, Tue 5 May 2009, 21:29, archived)
# To be fair,
in networked areas ( I'm a builder and property developer ) most new builds are getting fibre to the house.

Edit:// I only just saw the fibre bit. What do you mea? You have FTC in all areas now and there are no plans to take existing fibre to any homes because it can already, easily support 100MB which is the final target for all customers.
(, Tue 5 May 2009, 21:31, archived)
# the problem is
virgin cannot afford to upgrade any more, there still over coming there NTL bankruptcy protection in the states, but SOME engineers do seem to make it out there soon to terminate cable in the home,
But considering most of their cabs in dunstable area are coax to Coax up to the UBR where they go back to virgin via fiber.

but at least cabletel used good grade cable round here.

i have been in talks with an VM employee who leaks annoymously, and there may be trials for FTTH when they can be sure the upgrade will be cost effective.

whereas i think if they upgradr from eurodocsis3 to docsis2 (us spec) they will be able to spit 100mb outwith less overheads.

# I've been with
NTL since inception ( Virginmedia are NTL, they have nothing to do with the Virgin group of companies, NTL just licensed the use of the brand when they aqcuired Virgin Mobile )

It depends upon who your network was previously managed by as to the level of service you can expect but I thoroughly recommend them. Their lowest tier on cable is now 10MB for the price that many are still charging on ADSL for up to 8MB ( but usually 3-6mb depending upon disance )
NTL's customer support is poor since they moved it to India but then who's is any better?

No point subscribing to a network ( ADSL copper ) that is already maxxed out when you can have 10-50MB cable with a promise to offer 100MB within 2 years.

# I'm charged an exra fiver per month
because I pay at the local paypoint rather than direct debit.I won't pay by DD because I've heard too many stories about Virgin fucking about with customers bank accounts.
If you have a problem, you are charged for your phonecall to sort it out.If it proves to be their fault, they take the phonecall off your bill.I only have a mobile phone so fuck listening to greensleeves for half an hour and paying through the nose to be told to turn the modem off and on again.I save up all their glossy advertising bullshit they insist on sending me (despite me telling them to stop),until I have a weighty bundle, and send it back to them without a stamp.Ping speeds are all over the place. My personal webspace has been fucked up so many times I've given up maintaining it.My ntlworld email account regularly deleted my inbox,so I don't use that either.I fucking hate them, but its cable.
(, Tue 5 May 2009, 21:33, archived)
# I'd rather have
NTL fuck up my bill every few months so I can complain and get a shitload of stuff free than pay £5 a month.
I currently get free evening and weekend calls, all my TV ( sports, no movies in the package but I have a eurovox anyway ) and 20Mb uncapped broadband for £24 a month.

edit:// as for webspace? Nobody relies on 50mb of server space for anything at all.

I pay for a dedicated 100mbit pipe, 750mb storage server for my traffic needs because there are some things I don't expect my ISP to provide.

Because of my involvement with the anti Phorm campaign I've been party to many conversations with people needing to leave BT but not having the cable choice and Aquiss are head and shoulders the proven choice to switch to.
