This is a question Annoying Partners

As a recent divorcee, it would be churlish to reveal what annoys me the most about my ex, apart from that unfortunate business with the crinkle-cut beetroot which tipped us over the edge. So, what winds you up about your significant other? If you have no partner, tell us about workmates. If you have no workmates, improvise with an annoying tramp

to be fair
its not the worst trade off.

She is making you give up two things which lead to an early death.

In 40 yrs you will thank her.

"Giving up smoking adds years to your life!"
Yes but they're the WORST years, aren't they? They're the years when you're unable to feed yourself, and pee yourself all the time, and can't walk!

I think you are mixing them up with the drinking years.
Although that may just be my drinking years, I guess.

But what a boring 40 years it'll be

You can die at a ripe old age provided you give up all the things that make life worth living.

Sucks.

You don't know how old he is now

All the above make it out that smoking is what life is worth living for
it clearly isnt.

I smoked for over 10 yrs, gave up (4 years ago).

If you believe that Smoking is an achivement in life, you wont be living much of a life in the first place.

No.
Just that it's one of life's pleasures, and pleasure is what life is worth living for (unless one is some kind of masochistic freak, in which case one needs to be shot).

You're fooling yourself if you believe that smoking is one of life's pleasures.

I get it, I know that having that first cigarette of the day, or the one after a meal, or the one after sex, feels pleasurable. It's not really, though. It's just getting you back to the state the rest of us are in all the time.

Smoking = your mind fucking with you, not pleasure.

Fuck me
I'm tempted to start smoking again if it will prevent me becoming this hectoring.

^What she said^
Jesus Christ - sanctimoniousness is never pretty.

Thanks, AV.
I really needed that laugh. That ironic pot, kettle thing is hilarious.

He's going to start banging on about letting the love of Jesus into your life in a minute.

Pffft
You said "banging."

I have to agree with this.
I used to smoke because I got a buzz, then I smoked because it was something to do, then I realised I smoked because I was craving it. After giving up I've not missed it.
That said, I do li,e the taste of a cigar every now and again, and I have no problem with people smoking around me.
If you want to smoke, do it, but don't pretend for a second it really makes you feel better or that feeling like you need a cig every few hours means you're experiencing some kind of pleasure that non-smokers don't.

I realise giving up smoking makes you feel great,
but it's fucking difficult, and I want to do it in my own time, not because someone with the world's most annoying voice keeps nagging me to do it.
