My pal inspects factories for a living, and I shall take his expert advice to the grave: "Never eat the meat pies". Tell us the best advice you've ever received.

Keep your B3ta name unique
from every other board/forum/email address you may frequent/use. For example, I'm only SLVA on this site and nowhere else. For the rest of the internet I have two other nicknames.

That way, your stories about shitting in a hotel bed or how you got laid at 13 can't be traced back to you.

yup
I would go as far as saying use a different name on different sites. A quick Google of my usual name (I use a different one on here!) brings out many forums, many dating sites, my facebook, my twitter, my personal website, stuff ive uploaded to failblog and job recruitment sites.

Basically you can find out what i look like, where i live, what i do, what I like. Just everything!

Yeah, same here.
Outside of b3ta. I have two other nicknames.

I don't do this nearly enough
Er, I mean the other Cloudane doesn't do this nearly enough!

Or alternatively,
use one so common that anyone googling it will be inundated with specious hits.

I'm keeping a low profile here
If people start prying it could get messy.

In other words
Don't do this: www.b3ta.com/questions/anon/post615785

Totach!
That's the fella, I was trying to remember his name. That kid that got bullied off the internet for saying something rude to Happy Toast left himself wide open too.

I've a few.
But this one is unique to b3ta.
People who know me or my style of posting from other places will likely spot it's me though.
(, Tue 25 May 2010, 17:50, closed)
and it's difficult to find on Google

I hope they all are...
I stand behind most things I post on the internet but I'd rather not have them attached to a real name in a database.

One of my nephews posts on here
and I recognised the anecdotes he told rather than his name!

The dirty swine.

Heh. Ditto my brother. I saw a couple of his posts, and I just knew it was him.
His writing style gave him away just as much as the content of his stories.

You know that's a good idea
I think I'll follow this advice. I mostly use my real name elsewhere but not exclusively.
(, Wed 26 May 2010, 1:03, closed)
If find it easier
to not post things I'm ashamed of. This is best achieved by having no shame.

But on a serious forum...
...always use your real name.

It's much easier to believe that "Andrew Woodford" might know a bit about quantum physics/cars/evolution/medicine and stand behind what he says, than "BallSlammerz404"

Not necessarily *your* real name
any real sounding name will do nicely.
