This is a question Bugs and feature requests

Found a problem on B3ta? Want other features that we don't currently offer? Type your ideas here with your finger-mouths. (We don't promise we'll act on any of it, but we will read it and your words could even prompt us into action.)

I like the front page the way it is
but it might be nice if it was centralised

Also, can you put the actual b3ta logo on all the other pages too instead of a crappy bit of underlined text

Question: Why does your profile show all of your most recent stories, but only front paged images?
Why not show a few of your recent images, or some that have made it onto the popular page? Personally I would like to be able to stop my stories being shown

I appreciate folks have different connection speeds...
... so why not the option to 'avoid' larger image sizes if you've a limit?
That way those with broadporn can see less optimised images, those with limits can click the link if the replies seem appreciative...

Calendar - Long Events
How about updating the calendar to allow for events that last for more than a day, e.g. Reading/Leeds Festival, a b3ta weekend away, Ramadan?

I know it's already 2 years too late but can we stop new people signing up and dragging the place down to an AOL chatboard level?

Collapsible threads
I like the idea of collapsible threads with an option to have threads collapsed or whatever the opposite of collapsed actually is; I'm going to with inflated as it was the first word to spring to mind. Would make for easier reading for me anyway.

The logout timer would be a good idea or at least something scary going on to prompt me to at least start the essay which is due in tomorrow morning. I foresee a night of frantic typing fueled by caffeine....

"This made me laugh"
then show a list of the people that laughed. We do it on DSI, it works really well.

don't fuck up a good thing
once you start adding more boards and buttons etc etc I think you'll start to lose the fundamental luvliness of b3ta.

a woo yay button
much as i like the creative ways woo and yay are expressed how about a button that records how many woo's and indeed yay's that a post has recieved so not everyone has to post a reply and some kind of visible count as hitting i like this is ok but doesnt seem to count for anything less it gets the FP but how often does that happen?

or maybe i just like crap that no one else does

Glasscock
How about a Glasscock button in the links board, and the people who post a hell of a lot of GC, get a glasscock icon. (it may become a trophy)

it's only my opinion, but...
If I want content from a website that is different to that of B3ta then I go to a different site. Isn't that how surfing came about anyway?

Unless B3ta is going to wipe the porn off my pc, show me ladies in scanties, find the cheapest price on a UK spec AK-47, allow me the chance to win an iPOD by shooting ducks, sell me a car from some dodgy fucker from Bristol or direct me to the nearest taxidermist then, quite frankly, I'm happy to use other sites as well.

So there. I feel better for that, actually. Maybe this could become a regular feature??

long time lerker - few posts
I've posted my share of rubbish at times, becuase i'm not very good . . . this i've learn't.
But i think alot of people are put off by the reaction of memebers who don't think about the effort someone has gone into doing the work - for this reason i suggest somesort of Nice try! feature working in a similar way to i like this - help newbs on their way to doing something good, without having to bother replying to their threads. just an idea

Show the replies on the popular page
Show the whole thread on the popular page, then older posts might see a bit more interest

Gaz me! when somebody replies to an old post
Automatic notification of activity in your old threads

i reckon...
* Wider FPs are not necessarily a good idea - 280px limits you and therefore ensures you try harder
* The extra boards aren't as good as the main one - perhaps should limit to one, but only allow new posts that have pics/vids in
* People's profiles should allow you to see a list of all their FPs
* "I like this" for post replies
* 3D messageboard, where you click to go 'into' the screen so you can see what people would have said had the the subject been slightly differently worded or the picture had a different composition

Give each user a Kudos rating
calculated by the total number of "I like this!"s received divided by the total number of images posted

Alternate background colour options
Grey is, well .. grey. My creative mind yearns for a subtle shade of puce. A few variations in the prefs would be nice

Flash?
How about allowing small .swf files to be posted, up to 50k say.

Diversified challenges
Allow inline video posts on the main board and allow them as compo entries, only for videos you made, natch.

Or

have specific compos for other media.

E.g this week write a song about how you found a cure for cancer but didn't write it down and forgot. uploaded as an mp3.

Newsletter discussion
Links from each of the items in the newsletter to threads on the talk board, so people can easily discuss them.

Hands up who likes me...
I would like to see how popular I am by being able to see how many people clicked "I like this" for my image QOTW or link posts or even better who clicked it - so i can see who is in my sphere of trust.
(, Tue 7 Nov 2006, 20:50, Reply)

I like the ideas of themed icons for winning image challenges (that is, getting mentioned in the newsletter) - I think a row of little award icons next to your name would look really cool - and the bronze/silver/gold furtives for good posts (presumably based on the post being in the top 5/10/15/whatever percent of posts, click-wise, within an hour a certain time of posting).

Also, "I like this!" on any post with an image in would be great. Replies can be worth the popular page too.

I think the popular page needs a revamp - it would be better if it ordered posts based on the number of clicks and amount of time up there, so the really good posts stay up there longer, rather than working like the FP where posts expire whenever new ones go up.

Finally, I don't like the idea of a wider FP - at least not based on absolute dimensions in pixels. I am limited to 1024x768 on my screen so it's not wasting a huge amount of space at the moment for me. Perhaps something that scaled based on window size could work though.

Plus it puts the pr0n into one tidy place ;)

i do not like the idea of a real photo board
quite frankly, its such a small crowd that it wouldnt be worth it. i mean i wouldnt go to check the real photo and im sure there are many others in the same boat.

Keep RPS and dont fix whats not broken. Nothing stops you posting your own pictures in your own thread on a sunday. If you dont like what someone posts just ignore them and stop being childish :)

Hmmm...
I think the idea of awarding icons to QOTW/Image challenge is great and can be made better by themeing the icons, eg, for the redesigning flags challenge, a flag, or, for the dentist QOTW, a tooth.

Thanks fluffytail, you read my mind
I feel that a photos board would be great. I myself had thought about creating a sister site for this very reason, and started learning mysql because of it.

The talk and links board were made out of large demand, I hope a photos board can come out of it too.
