# I wouldn't want to get into a political diatribe about this
but Stalinists weren't real Communists, they only used the word to fool the masses whilst Stalin and his cronies lived in decandent luxury. If this challenge had been about "What if the Stalinists had won the cold war?" then you would be spot on. However I'm a little politically offended by the Daily Mail usage of the word Communist on the board in general.

Ah well nows that's off my chest woo yay for your picture.
(, Sun 25 Apr 2004, 14:19, archived)
# Too right.
(, Sun 25 Apr 2004, 14:39, archived)
# Too true
but then the challenge did mention ' If those dastardly commies had won the cold war' suggesting it would be the USSR in charge, thus the stalinist-communist posts would make sense.

However I agree that there is a great deal of confusion about the actual philosophy of true communism. I think many people here are simply going with the populist-capitalist-propaganda view for the sake of comedy though.

# You may be right in the technical sense,
But unfortunately with the Chinese Communists also using the term as little more than a label (instead of the more honest "Greedy Dictatorial Cunts" label), and the North Korean authorities doing the same, Communism as it has manifested itself in the real world is basically what's being used in the challenge. Communism in its pure sense doesn't exist in the real world, I hate to say.

# i really really wish that i could disagree with you.
But i cant. The Russians and subsequent 'revolutionaries' have achieved little more than giving the true meaning of the word 'communism' a bad name. Under Karl Marx's theories, countries like the USA, the UK, Germany and france would have gone commy through a social evolutionary process and ended up as a big happy world. Sadly the marxist partys such as the bolsheviks got a bit impatient and decided to go strait from a semi-feudal system (instead of uber-capitalist). This resulted in things being done wrong becuase the countries which actually turned commy were 3rd world countries which couldnt afford to support its people even if people like Mao ZeDong or that korean fella inteded to.

# true and horrible

i hope you at least make a third place in the compo with this one so all the newletter people see it aswell.

and of course - YAY!

# I agree with those
Citizen cards. If you have nothing to hide, whats the big dealio?
(, Sun 25 Apr 2004, 14:31, archived)
# if you have nothing to hide
why should the government spend your money on an expensive ID card system and why should you have to prove who you are?
(, Sun 25 Apr 2004, 14:59, archived)
# Good point
But I doubt it would be as expensive as some of the government "social" schemes.
(, Sun 25 Apr 2004, 15:01, archived)
# what?
like pensions?
(, Sun 25 Apr 2004, 15:02, archived)
# Pensions!
Pensions should be higher!

The park near my house is run down and shite, the town hall is useless, the local leisure center is getting closed down, the swimming baths are gone, our landmark is falling apart, three schools have been closed down, yet they have enough money to make a gay/bi/lesbian center.

I don't like the government at the moment and lib dems and conservatives are shite too.
(, Sun 25 Apr 2004, 15:15, archived)
# of course they should
so why are they wasting so much money on something which is of no benefit to people, and could potentially be used against them?
(, Sun 25 Apr 2004, 15:47, archived)
# AND....
....why should the taxpayer foot the bill for various criminal types to make cash selling fake ones to any old villain that wants one?

PS Do you know what day it is today?
(, Sun 25 Apr 2004, 15:02, archived)
# of course
Did the carrier pigeon with the cake not make it?
(, Sun 25 Apr 2004, 15:04, archived)
# I think..
...that Ramon shot it and fed it to Barney.
(, Sun 25 Apr 2004, 15:07, archived)
# I thought
They were gonna microchip them.
(, Sun 25 Apr 2004, 15:07, archived)
# microchip them?
Is that like a magic wand, sort of thing? Cos a microchip is inherently uncopiable. Like a CSS-protected DVD or a hologram...

Altogether now: "Izzy, Wizzy, let's bring back the Sus laws, cos the police didn't abuse those last time we had them, oh no..."

# Okay
I'll be round to install the CCTV cameras in each of your rooms tomorrow then.
I'll tap your phone while I'm at it.

Unless you have something to hide, that is.

I'm uncertain about ID cards, but they seemed like a good thing to end the pic with.

It's why I won't be voting Labour for the first time in 23 years. Nice one!
