Alan Freeman was part of a duo
but his partner died before BBC disc jockey fame blessed him. The penguin was nicknamed Arf, the sound he would constantly make when in the studio, but his real name was Fluffy. Freeman would always have to correct people, 'Not Arf!".
Fluffy's contribution to radio is immeasurable and the successful DJ/ penguin partnership he pioneered still exists today. It's a little known fact that many famous 'voices' on BBC radio are actually fluffy penguins, most notably Comedy Dave from the Chris Moyles Show and Sally Traffic on Steve Wright in the Afternoon.
