This is a question Drunk Parents

Watching the old man swing home from the pub and start arguing with Newsnight can be either funny, slightly unnerving or just plain terrifying. Tell us about daft things parents have done while they've been in their cups.

In what category?

(, Wed 2 Mar 2011, 8:22, closed)
'People who thought QOTW was for the telling and spreading of amusing stories'.

(, Wed 2 Mar 2011, 8:39, closed)

yeah, he told a great one didnt he. excellent. good work.
(, Wed 2 Mar 2011, 8:42, closed)
Well no.
But he did link to one of the three or perhaps four half-decent answers to the question.

It's not really Brayndedd or Zapiola's fault that qotw regulars seem more interested in whining about the horrible /talk invasion or wallowing in one another's misery than saying "lol" to an amusing anecdote.

I'm quite happy to put Brayndedd in a fail archive for any number of things ... but trying to drag qotw out of its current gloompit of self-pity and creepy stalking and back to its roots of amusing stories is not very high on the list.

/soapbox
(, Wed 2 Mar 2011, 8:56, closed)

I can sort of see your point, but unfortunately many of the people who wrote amusing stories have left because... well, we've all heard this story many times. And its fair to say that if someone linked to a story they thought was amusing and said 'hey look at this' the trolls would be all over them. But when its a troll that does it its suddenly ok.
(, Wed 2 Mar 2011, 9:05, closed)
What makes Brayndedd a troll?
The definition of 'troll' on here appears to be 'a person from another b3ta board who isn't in our little qotw clique and doesn't play by our unwritten rules'.

qotw doesn't belong to the half dozen white knights who wander around approving and disapproving of stories and making creepy comments to any poster who might be a girl. It's a section of a public website with 80 odd thousand members. Many of whom have been here for longer than qotw and certainly for longer than it has been a threaded messageboard rather than just a suggestion box for a radio show.
(, Wed 2 Mar 2011, 9:13, closed)

Yeah, you're right. Its obvious now you've pointed it out. Silly me. White knights, cliques, approving/disapproving. It all makes sense when you say it like that.
(, Wed 2 Mar 2011, 9:23, closed)
Why does that make you silly?
And how does it answer my question as to why Brayndedd is a troll?

Why are you being defensive?
(, Wed 2 Mar 2011, 9:25, closed)

It was sarcasm... you claim there is a clique, but you guys follow each other around like flies. You claim we approve/disapprove but the very post in question is a post overt approval on a scale rarely seen on qotw (click i like this and post a comment in the replies is the normal procedure). And you want qotw to go back to its roots of amusing stories but there are several posters who just cant resist posting negative comments in response to any post that doesnt fit their narrow approval criteria (as opposed to skipping to the next post) - I dont direct this next comment at your per se, but if you want funnier posts on qotw, stop ripping the shit out of other peoples contributions. that way more people will contribute and hopefully there will be more posts you approve of. As for Brayndedd being a troll, ok, try another word if that suits you better, but I include him in that clique of posters who regularly post non constructive negative comments.

Yeah, I know you wont agree, and I know your mates will come to your defense and try to belittle me, but you asked so there it is. I'll leave you to it now as my fish is getting cold.

toodles.
(, Wed 2 Mar 2011, 9:36, closed)
I was being entirely serious.
Sorry.

And in case you haven't noticed, both myself and Brayndedd did comment on that funny anecdote. And on the unexpected horse anecdote. In fact, I think I have commented positively on every single funny anecdote this week. All three or four of them.

As I said: I don't understand why you're acting so defensive and I still don't know what makes Brayndedd a troll here.

Enjoy your fish.
(, Wed 2 Mar 2011, 9:39, closed)

I've said my piece. No point carrying on about it.

The fish was lovely thanks.
(, Wed 2 Mar 2011, 9:47, closed)
Fair enough.
You're not going to retract your 'troll' comment though, are you?
(, Wed 2 Mar 2011, 9:53, closed)
He's going to need to learn what it means first.

(, Wed 2 Mar 2011, 10:30, closed)
Stop following me like a fly.

(, Wed 2 Mar 2011, 10:34, closed)

Youre outclassed Shambolic you twunt.
(, Wed 2 Mar 2011, 13:07, closed)
Since you seem to have such a thing for White Knights (x6)
Here you are -

There's a couple extra, why not share them with you friends?
(, Wed 2 Mar 2011, 15:57, closed)
God forbid that people on an irreverent comedy site make irreverent comments eh?

(, Wed 2 Mar 2011, 9:15, closed)
YOU TERRIBLE TROLL.

(, Wed 2 Mar 2011, 9:43, closed)
You leave my clique alone, you awful woman.
Wait ... you're a woman?

Well hellooooo!

Had you heard that sneep's mum has a moustache?
(, Wed 2 Mar 2011, 9:58, closed)
I just wanted the last word

(, Wed 2 Mar 2011, 12:45, closed)
but trying to drag qotw out of its current gloompit of self-pity and creepy stalking and back to its roots of amusing stories
is this what you're trying to do? I must have misunderstood you guys. I tell you what, I like the idea - the glory days of a couple of years back are long gone and it's be nice to have them back. I'd also love to stop SVLA's stupid Accord things. They're fucking pointless and annoying, and are shit (however, I do respect his right to post, and he's come up with a couple of corkers in the past).

I miss the days of funny stories, based in truth, too.

My rules to good QOTWing - tell a story that is true (embellish if need me, but not excessively), tell it in an amusing way, keep it on topic. Job done.

There ARE too many needy fools, bitching about their sad lives. There ARE too many who get politically correct unnecessarily - there should be no holy cows. If we can laugh at cancer, we can laugh at trannies. A joke is a joke, even if it's distasteful.

What I dislike is unnecessary trolling - we SHOULD pick on shit stories that are blatant lies and are badly written. We SHOULD abuse idiots. However, we SHOULD NOT just get on people's backs just because we don't like their posts. Everyone has a right to post; if it's crap, raise it constructively then just ignore them.

Does that sound reasonable? If you're shit, and a liar, and not very good at writing, FUCK OFF.
If you're a pointless troll, FUCK OFF.

If you're posting things that are interesting and funny and NOT WHINY, COME HERE AND POST...

Maybe I think about this too much.

PS I fucking hate fluffy kittens. Every time some cunt posts one on here I want to put my screen in a bag and throw it in a river.
(, Wed 2 Mar 2011, 14:30, closed)
Just turn off the 'reply' feature.
Job done.
(, Wed 2 Mar 2011, 14:59, closed)
But the 'reply' feature adds so much.
Before it came along so many posts went Off-Topic, there was no communiction betweenusers, and it wasn't as much fun.
(, Wed 2 Mar 2011, 15:15, closed)
There are already two messageboards and a PM feature.
How many forms of communication do b3tans need?
(, Wed 2 Mar 2011, 15:37, closed)
it allows flowing conversation re the posts - it allows some public feedback and can be fun!
not everyone wants to go onto /talk, for whatever reason. Others don't want to use /main.

I've always enjoyed /QOTW, and we had a nice little community on here for a while. Thing is, it has gone downhill; there are a lot of crap posts, a lot of kids with nothing to say and no real writing skills, but all the negativity doesn't help.
(, Wed 2 Mar 2011, 16:05, closed)
The reply feature
Is you favourite button Shambolic, if the admins got rid of it, you may have to contribute a story that meets DP's exacting standards.
(, Wed 2 Mar 2011, 15:26, closed)
If I were really churlish here I'd point out that I've had stories featured in both the newsletter and the short-lived radio thing
whereas your answers read like ... well ... fuck knows what they read like ... I'm not going to bother reading something half a page long.

The reply button is the source of both the neediness and the seedy stalking and the general atmosphere of a support group at a hospice for the terminally dull.

edit: although looking at your user number that is presumably what attracted you to the site in the first place so fair enough
(, Wed 2 Mar 2011, 15:36, closed)
I read that as
My stories were great, yours are rubbish, even though I very rarely write half a page. For someone that is just up for a laugh, that sounds like your going on the attack.

The FAQ's on the site say anything goes, just don't make it boring. Your constant bleating on about what B3ta should be about is easily the most boring thing on here by a cuntry mile and your replies sound like the very stalky weirdos you talk about, especially when you are replying in the same minute the OP has gone down. leave that refresh button alone and write something creative, interesting and funny. Unlike me, you clearly have the time to do this.

Write more Shambolic show people how it's done the constant bleating is worse than the needy posts mate.... Lurrvs you.
(, Wed 2 Mar 2011, 15:57, closed)
Fortunately everybody else here can read.

(, Wed 2 Mar 2011, 16:01, closed)
I can't, you heartless bastard

(, Wed 2 Mar 2011, 16:20, closed)
I'm only 12 and what is this?

(, Wed 2 Mar 2011, 16:24, closed)
haha that
was churlish to childish in a blink of an eye.
(, Wed 2 Mar 2011, 16:50, closed)
I would dearly love to read a new story from Shambles as opposed to his replies.
AB contributes some good 'uns.

I don't think many of the other /talk guys do post stories.
(, Wed 2 Mar 2011, 15:54, closed)
I've got into this awful habit of only posting when I have an amusing anecdote.
I appreciate that this isn't a common habit on here any more.
(, Wed 2 Mar 2011, 16:00, closed)
it's a good point. My posts have been scarce recently for the same reason.
However, wouldn't it be nicer to flame and criticise the stupidly awful posts (like the post box and lung) and those that are terribly written, and let everyone else get on with it.

The crap posters tend not to last that long, the really over the top lies (if they're really funny) are entertaining and the average stories, well, meh.
(, Wed 2 Mar 2011, 16:05, closed)
Prolly.
But whenever I see a white knight leaping onto his noble steed and dashing to the aid of an internet maiden I get an uncontrollable urge to trip it up and rub soil in its face.

I'm a terrible bully.
(, Wed 2 Mar 2011, 16:27, closed)

Blind Freddy can see the number of protests from tons of different users against the trolling in this forum. Dont pretend your doing everyone a favour.

You should drop the white knight line. Follow this conversation upwards...its about you jumping in to protect one of your talk buddies.

White knight anyone?

Your poorest line of shit yet you stupid weak cunt.
(, Wed 2 Mar 2011, 19:57, closed)
Dr. I guess
you must have used them up in the first few years then....
(, Wed 2 Mar 2011, 16:12, closed)
Unfortunately a lot of them
see it as an us and them situation. AB does come out with the odd gem, so his replies are easier to take tbh. I think /talk could come up with some cracking posts if they put their minds to it.

Edit - Problem they have now is that they would have to come up with master pieces every week to not get flamed into oblivion.
