(, Tue 6 Nov 2007, 15:35, archived)
It's not much of a scam.
It makes it perfectly clear that it's just an offer to switch.
(, Tue 6 Nov 2007, 15:32, archived)
not to some people
like the bloke that gave it to me
(, Tue 6 Nov 2007, 15:34, archived)
Caveat Emptor.
Something isn't 'a scam' simply because some silly people choose to pay too much for something.
(, Tue 6 Nov 2007, 15:35, archived)
tell that to the internet
www.domainnameshop.co.uk/z_info_scams.php

www.searchenginecollege.com/2005/11/domain-registry-of-america-scam-alive.html

been around for a while you see, and its back
(, Tue 6 Nov 2007, 15:37, archived)
OK. So ...
"Something isn't 'a scam' simply because some silly people choose to pay too much for something and other people whine about it on the internet."
(, Tue 6 Nov 2007, 15:39, archived)
I am simply pointing this out to people who don't know about it
super brainy people like yourself should have noticed that.
(, Tue 6 Nov 2007, 15:43, archived)
A worthy effort.
But you don't need to be even loosely brainy to work out that letter.
(, Tue 6 Nov 2007, 15:53, archived)
DRoA have been at it for years, and most of their letters are more deceptive than that one
and they've been sued within an inch of their life on several occasions for letters that were clearly intended to look like a bill.
(, Tue 6 Nov 2007, 15:37, archived)
It would be a scam if you gave the money and they did not switch it
Are they for real? If so this is spam not scam.
(, Tue 6 Nov 2007, 15:38, archived)
They (probably) will (eventually) transfer the domain, so they're just spammers now.
They used to be scammers in that they pretended to be the domain registry and tricked people into thinking they must renew with them, or register similar domains, or lose their domain. They're shitbags either way.
(, Tue 6 Nov 2007, 15:40, archived)
as mentioned they have been about for years
letter sent from Jamaica (alaska) but reply letter to London?

quick google said "bad" so I told teh internets
(, Tue 6 Nov 2007, 15:41, archived)
I, Rev. Mr Umbongo Rikitikkitavi, have nothing to fear.
I could help you out with your finances too if you help me transfer some war diamonds out of my country.
(, Tue 6 Nov 2007, 15:32, archived)
I'm gonna get
German police specialists to unscramble your domain address.
(, Tue 6 Nov 2007, 15:33, archived)
Yes.
Domain owners are easily tricked by this kind of crap.
(, Tue 6 Nov 2007, 15:33, archived)
I just buy all mine though one ISP,
and its so simple , easy and conveniant.
(, Tue 6 Nov 2007, 15:39, archived)
Yup.
I'm a registrar/reseller.
(, Tue 6 Nov 2007, 15:41, archived)
then they are illiterate
and dim. There's no law against making money out of people who are out of their depth. It's perfectly clear in bold letters that it's just an offer.
(, Tue 6 Nov 2007, 15:42, archived)
but it says 'this is not a bill, you can do what you like' on it
unless they just nick off with your money or something
(, Tue 6 Nov 2007, 15:34, archived)
it says it in bold letters too
You have to be one brain cell short of an amoeba to not understand the letter.
(, Tue 6 Nov 2007, 15:40, archived)
there are plenty of those about.

(, Tue 6 Nov 2007, 15:45, archived)
Ohhh, I get loads of them every month, and just ignore them.

(, Tue 6 Nov 2007, 15:36, archived)
One of the benefits of WHOIS privacy:
any mail sent to the address for my domain names is shredded.
(, Tue 6 Nov 2007, 15:43, archived)
I've been getting
them for years.
(, Tue 6 Nov 2007, 15:42, archived)
Anyone stupid enough
to not read those letters properly and to fall for it, deserve to be taken for as much as the scammers can get out of them.
(, Tue 6 Nov 2007, 15:48, archived)
