Something by Fractal Design

Side USB only matters if it's the side against the wall, surely? If they are on the side away from the wall, that's good no? You can always rotate the PC through 90 degrees to change that too.

if i rotate the PC round 90 degrees it will be in the way of the monitor.
or behind it, which could be neat although it means bringing the monitor forwards on the desk.
Anyway you can call me USB racist if you like, but i don't know why you would put USB ports on the side of the front panel, it strikes me as a very odd design decision.
I have built with Sharkoon, it was a mATX tower, quite nice.

The last time I built a PC,
I bought a case that was bigger than I needed, yet laid out in such a fashion that the fans can't be installed unless I leave the motherboard out.
Speaking of which, the mini ITX motherboard has an onboard Nvidia GPU which has a rattly fan, and the integrated graphics on the i3 CPU aren't recognised by Vista.
Still, live and learn, eh?

To animate or not to animate... That is the question!
I have decided to learn basic animation, so I can post even more random shite on B3TA. I honestly should have started doing this about 10 years ago!
I'm at a basic level with the GIMP (I have 2, the one in my basement I don't talk about..... or do I?) where I can do simple image manipulation. So I want to move on to animation next.
I know Adobe do Flash & After Effects which I could use, but are there any other apps that will not cost me a small fortune that I should be looking at.
BTW last time I did any animation was on Animator 1 on the Spectrum....

don't bother with flash because 1) you have to relearn it from scratch every time they do a new release, 2) it's fucking shit and 3) it's pretty much being discontinued anyway

Tupac was interested in numerology, particularly the number 7 and its significance
in one of his movies, whenever an 'L' appeared it was shown as the number '7', eg. in menus/shop signs. His final album was called the 7 day theory and his death was exactly 7 months after the release od 'All eyes on me' - the last humous album he made. He died at the age of 25 (2+5=7), after surviving 7 days in hospital and his death was at 4:03 (4+3=7). As for returning in 2014 (2+0+1+4=7), well he will be 43 years old (4+3=7), 18 (8-1=7) years after his 'death' and given that even during his life he was fascinated by the number 7, this seems too weird to be a coincidence.

In Serbia, Albania, Macedonia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Croatia and some other countries, there is "Fanta Shokata" (a wordplay between "soc" -elderberry in Romanian- and "shock") based on an elderflower blossom extract drink, traditional in Romania (where it is called Socat), Serbia, Macedonia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Croatia and other Balkan countries. In Switzerland and the Netherlands, the blackcurrant is used to produce Fanta as well. Some identical flavors have different names in different markets.[citation needed]

That last line is the most worrying part
I don't want to listen to new songs by old bands; I want to hear the envelope being pushed. Motorpsycho's "Death-defying Unicorn" is a good example; it's a great album, but it's an old band. Why are new bands not doing stuff like that? It all seems to be awful overproduced rehashes of genres that died of chlamydia thirty years ago.

Music is a limited resource.
There's only so many combinations of notes, rhythms, and sounds, and most of them have already been done. Another decade and all we'll have will be re-issues, remixes, mash-ups, and cover versions.
Alternatively, Taylor Swift and Jay-Z are right, and streaming has forced new acts out of the industry. Same reason that all the big cinema releases are remakes, reboots, and sequels. And no new books have been published since the invention of the Kindle.

Did you watch that Steve Albini talk that was on /links the other day? He argues the other side of this
That streaming and YouTube have revolutionised the record industry, and everyone has an equal chance of being heard now, shared and made popular based on their own merits, without the record company and assorted hangers-on sucking up 99.99% of the income.
What he doesn't really address is how the bands ever get paid if everyone's copying their music and no-one buys it.

It's a dilemma (saw the link, couldn't stomach an hour of Albini-waffle).
Modern technologies make it phenomenally easy to make music, but the big money comes from playing live gigs. But what sort of muppet pays thirty quid to sit in a dark room watching skinny teens twiddling with synthesizers and button pads?
It's what I hate about modern music; it's flooded by twats who have no ability to sing and no intention of learning an instrument, but they still flood Soundcloud with pained and broken "songs" that are all scratchy, untuned and jarring, and get away with it by calling it "lo-fi". Fuck off back to your coffee shop, you cunt. This is a case in point.

I've got no problem with musical experimentation, no matter how artsy-fartsy it's trying to be
I'm just annoyed at having to sift through so much tuneless tediously-enunciated bollocks.

morning grrrry
the problem is that you are a bit old for a lot of new music, unless it is new music made by people of your age.
new music I have enjoyed just this weekend at a festival designed for old people who like new music includes: Richard Dawson, Gazelle Twin, Sex Swing, Holly Herndon, Woven Skull.
perhaps you might like one of them

I've not been moved by a new band for a really long time. As someone has already said, I keep discovering old bands for the first time, so they're new to me, I guess.

Exactly
I talk to the young blokes at work and everything sounds overly-synthesized and punctuated with incoherent mumbling black men. Then I speak to the old blokes at work and end up listening to King Crimson.

More than anything else, I listen to old blues singers like Lonnie Johnson or Muddy Waters
Occasionally I like a bit of doo wop or 60's surf. Classic rock obviously.

To upgrade one's research lab means 'wear a condom'
and levelling up one's wizards means 'having a posh wank'
