I borrowed a baby bjorn from a mate
who was more than willing to lend it since it's a crotch-dangler that apparently causes horrendous hip and spine issues. Wife chose Ergobaby or some shit like that

(, Sat 11 Jun 2016, 11:13, archived)
We had a Baby Bjorn thing, and some sort of sling that was supposed to adapt as the baby grew.
They nestled in it as a baby, then you sort of carried them on your hip as they got older, with their bum in the sling - nice idea in principle, but in practice, they'd fall asleep in it and you'd be dragging around dead weight, so absolutely awful.
Borrowed one of those elaborate, metal framed backpack things from a cousin, but because the kid would sit above head height, they'd get hit in the face by tree branches as we hiked around the woods, so gave on that pretty quick.

^ fuck of back to mumsnet
(, Sat 11 Jun 2016, 10:30, archived)
Yeah it's great, means I can do stuff in the garden whilst looking after the baby.

Morning
I drank all my beers yesterday and its fucking miserable outside.

XCOM board game - really good, you need 4 players but its a tense game. One player uses an app on a tablet to keep the game flowing and relaying info to the other players, it's well paced and the fact it randomizes events for each game gives it plenty of replay value.

#Muppsnobodyfuckingcares
(, Sat 11 Jun 2016, 11:44, archived)
When I was a yoot I was always intrigued by that board game series that came with a videotape.
Turns out someone went to the effort of uploading the vids to YouTube. Looks shite.
(, Sat 11 Jun 2016, 11:48, archived)
Atmosfear or something like that? Yeah the video was dreadful
I reckon the designers of XCOM have hit on a good idea here, sort of a modernization of that "watch a video to guide the game" mechanic. We were talking about the same idea in different settings, having the app adds an extra layer of unpredictability to the game, which something like Arkham Horror (a Lovecraftian horror game) would definitely benefit from
(, Sat 11 Jun 2016, 11:59, archived)

No. 1 son is going on a "Survival Day" with the Cubs. Not sure what this entails, so I'll assume it involves me abandoning him in the woods with a pocket knife, and him fending off the attentions of assorted sex offenders.
Haha, 'cos all adults involved in the scouting movement are paedophiles!
Not sure what I'll be doing. Cutting the grass and bullying the kids into doing their homework, I expect.

An interest in knives and fire is pretty healthy for any young lad I reckon.
It's if the interest persists when they're old enough to take interest in girls and drugs you need to be concerned.
(, Fri 10 Jun 2016, 12:45, archived)
I was a bit obsessed by knives, as a youth.
Stopped carrying one when I realised I was a clumsy sod and kept cutting open my own hand.
Always feel bad when I discourage the kids from playing with matches, as flicking them, one by one, at a wall was one of life's simple pleasures.

what's wrong with being a brexiter?

(, Thu 9 Jun 2016, 16:26, archived)
There seems to be a massive correlation between being a brexiter and being a massive spastic.
It gives the government power to make their own legislation, or to not make it. That gives them more freedom. Which under a neolibertarian goverment means more freedom from trade unions and collective bargaining means the freedom to suppress wages. Freedom from regulation means the freedom to poison rivers, endanger workers, charge iniquitous rates of interest and design exotic financial instruments. Freedom from tax means freedom from the distribution of wealth that lifts people out of poverty.

So what does Britain do, send UKIP people who just do fuck all and piss their allowance away.

If we sent more effective people maybe shit might get done...
(, Thu 9 Jun 2016, 16:40, archived)
Indeed.
It's also better to try and reform than petulantly pick up our ball and go home.

Sorting out the EU looks more viable than wishing for a party that isn't full of self-interested cunts and getting enough people to vote for them. Possibly whilst reforming our own voting methods. Which we could still do whilst being in the EU.
(, Thu 9 Jun 2016, 16:42, archived)
And furthermore
If people think that Gove and co will spend the 0.6% of our overall taxes on the NHS, they are insane.

Indeed.
They have not put forward one single credible authority or institution which has backed exit. And people lap this shit up.

As for the answer "Norway" they pay the full subsidiary and can't vote on EU legislation, have to be signed up to the free movement regulation and ECHR. So, we'll pay more and have stuff imposed on us. GOOD ONE.
