Why is it that great sci-fi shows such as
Firefly, Space: Above & Beyond, Farscape and Dark Angel are cancelled while utter fucking turds like Enterprise, Stargate: Atlantis and Andromeda were allowed multiple seasons of total shite to clog up the airwaves?
(, Mon 3 Jun 2013, 12:26, 41 replies)
You forgot Voyager

(, Mon 3 Jun 2013, 12:33, closed)
Everyone does

(, Mon 3 Jun 2013, 12:36, closed)
I consider Enterprise to be the bigger abortion
and I didn't want to be seen to be picking on the Trekkies/ers/whatever the fuck they call themselves.
(, Mon 3 Jun 2013, 12:43, closed)
Trekbars

(, Mon 3 Jun 2013, 12:52, closed)
I gave up on Enterprise
But I have a friend who claims it was just getting really good when it was cancelled, which kinda proves your point
(, Mon 3 Jun 2013, 14:41, closed)
Voyager was better than DS9, in my opinion.

(, Mon 3 Jun 2013, 13:29, closed)
You're wrong
That is all
(, Mon 3 Jun 2013, 14:20, closed)
Because people are idiots,
and the media caters to its audience.
Not to mention that Farscape and Dark Angel weren't any good. Now Mantis, that was a quality show...
(, Mon 3 Jun 2013, 12:53, closed)
Has anyone else noticed that Farscape is basically Blake's 7 with a decent FX budget?

A rag-tag bunch of outlaws, whose motives and loyalties are not always clear, united only by their opposition to a monolithic, tyrannical empire. A ship that's considered to be part of the crew. A violent second-in-command who's held in check by the captain. A gentle giant. Hell, we even have a psionic brunette and a gun-toting blonde!

About the only difference is that, in firefly, the big-titted short-haired woman who the captain fancies is part of the crew, rather than runing the empire...
(, Mon 3 Jun 2013, 13:33, closed)
They're remaking Blakes 7 now.

(, Mon 3 Jun 2013, 15:27, closed)
Hahahaha, no girlfriend.

(, Mon 3 Jun 2013, 14:02, closed)
Hahahahaha

That's not even in his top ten favourite alarms.

Oh noes you have vaguely insulted me by suggesting a model I took some pictures of once doesn't adhere to your standards of beauty
Perhaps I should scour a "comedy" messageboard for an emotionally scarred, mentally unstable, dog-rough swamp donkey to marry instead
(, Mon 3 Jun 2013, 15:05, closed)
You've definitely not taken it to heart though.
Honestly, what would your dad say if he saw you behaving like this?
(, Mon 3 Jun 2013, 15:50, closed)
He'd probably think I was being unfair for trading insults with the mentally disabled

(, Mon 3 Jun 2013, 16:46, closed)
Oh you,
Such the funny.
(, Mon 3 Jun 2013, 14:23, closed)
The word 'great' and the words 'sci-fi shows' have no business being in the same sentence as each other.
With this exception:

'People who like sci-fi shows are great big sweaty internet virgins with skin disorders, who sit in their pants all day eating Wotsits'
(, Mon 3 Jun 2013, 14:31, closed)
BABYLON FIVE'S A BIG PILE OF SHIT

(, Mon 3 Jun 2013, 14:33, closed)
I like how annoyed people get when I say I didn't watch Spaced.

(, Mon 3 Jun 2013, 14:55, closed)
Neither have I.

(, Mon 3 Jun 2013, 16:21, closed)
OI!
That's a half-truth.
(, Mon 3 Jun 2013, 14:36, closed)
OK, OK.... Quavers.

Happy now?
(, Mon 3 Jun 2013, 14:37, closed)
I DO NOT HAVE A SKIN DISORDER

Sci fi is fucking shit.

(, Mon 3 Jun 2013, 14:36, closed)
No, only 90% of Sci Fi is fucking shit.
But then, 90% of everything is fucking shit.

There are no sci-fi shows.
They're all shit fantasy.
(, Mon 3 Jun 2013, 15:33, closed)
Star Cops
Was "proper" hard SF. And lived up to the subject of the original question by being cancelled 2/3 of the way through its first series.
(, Mon 3 Jun 2013, 15:56, closed)
I shall look for that.
Thanks, I get sick of the fantasy crap that passes for sci-fi.
More Harry Harrison, less Gene Rodenberry I say!
(, Mon 3 Jun 2013, 15:59, closed)

Give Odyssey 5 a shot whilst you're at it.

"proper" hard SF?
Have a fucking word with yourself
(, Mon 3 Jun 2013, 23:19, closed)
Subjectivity.
That's a good word. I like that word. Thanks for suggesting I have a word, it was very satisfying.

That was the show I was trying to remember but ended up going with Dark Angel instead.
(, Mon 3 Jun 2013, 16:22, closed)
