This is a question I Hurt My Rude Bits, Again

My commute to work was made excellent the other day when I saw a motorcyclist try to ride on the pavement to avoid a traffic queue, lose control, fall off and land bollock-first on a concrete bollard. He was fine, eventually – but tell us your tales of the old blinding agony to the gentleman's or gentlewoman's area.

what's with all the stories of blokes getting the snip? with all the other options why result to bollock threatening surgery? you wouldn't demand your wife /girlfriend had her tubes tied,so wtf? what if you meet someone less demanding after the inevitable divorce once she finds someone she doesn't mind having umpteen babies with?

A vasectomy is much safer and easier surgery than female sterilisation and has one tenth of the failure rate (1 in 2000 vs 1 in 200)
Other popular options like the pill or condoms tend to have failure rates of around 1 in one to two hundred per year and I'm sure you can see why plenty of people in stable relationships who have completed their families would want to avoid having to worry about further unwanted pregnancies.

So, if having read this you decide you would like to have your bollocks snipped off I'd be happy to do it for you privately with a pair of secateurs for 50 quid.

Have you ever been woken up by a toddler at 11pm, 12am, 2am, 3:30am, 4:00am, 4:15am, 6:00am
before your alarm clock finally goes off at 6:30am?

On mornings like that I'd be happy if I could just go to a walk-in clinic before breakfast.

What 2can said.
After trying for several years for a second and a couple of "no cigars" we decided that it was time to call it quits. The missus has had breast cancer which meant no hormones (pity me when the change comes along) so it was surgery.
Bottom line - the snip was far less invasive and expensive than a hysterectomy.
(, Mon 11 Mar 2013, 1:47, closed)

Not suggesting hysterectomies as an alternative, just not getting the whole snip thing. Fair enough though, i can see that under certain circumstances it would make sense. Pills and condoms have always worked for me and always seemed quite straightforward but i guess maybe i'm firing blanks these days or have just been lucky not to have more than one kid.

That and the fact that you've never had full intercourse with an adult woman.

(, Mon 11 Mar 2013, 7:58, closed)

And judging by your username you've had too much intercourse with (fisting by) strangers.

It's really not that big a deal.
They don't even put you under. The worst part is the anesthetic they inject first. The only thing I could feel was when they cauterized things, and that was only a faint electric buzz.

I was sore for a few days, but not in agony. They say not to even wank for eight weeks. Believe me, for that eight weeks I didn't even want to think about it. But after I healed? No more worries, no more preparing with condoms or diaphragms, no more wife being on pills that made her even more irrational than usual. And after the divorce, I could be as spontaneous with women as I wanted without fear of babies.

Well worth it.
(, Mon 11 Mar 2013, 9:50, closed)
to not even wank for eight weeks?!
They didn't tell me that - the doctor just said that I needed about 30 shots to clear my pipes out, and I could start as soon as I felt comfortable.

A challenge! First of all, I phoned the then-Mrs at work the next day to tell her that it still worked. Then set about clearing the 30 shots in a couple of weeks - sadly, mostly on my own...

It was a bit different back in the 1940s when he had his done.

(, Mon 11 Mar 2013, 12:11, closed)
That was what my doc told me, anyway.
It was a bit difficult toward the end, but the first time we had a portion it didn't quite feel right on my side of things- it was still a little tender internally. But a week later I was back to normal, and haven't had any regrets about it at all.
(, Mon 11 Mar 2013, 13:04, closed)
Nor me. I was shitting bricks beforehand, was so worried...
...but it was really nothing to get in such a state over.

And knowing that I'm an affront to devout catholics everywhere is nice :)

'30 shots 'till empty'
same as a bottle of JD?

(technically 28 but meh)
(, Mon 11 Mar 2013, 18:21, closed)

And if you decide you'd like to have another with a new woman you've fallen for and you realise isn't as psychopathic as the first wife, on or off the pill? And this new (possibly 'real') love of your life has to leave you because she wants children, leaving you bitter and resentful for the rest of your days?
Also - spontaneous without fear of babies? So you have bare-backed one-night stands? Good luck at the clinic.

All I'm saying is keep your options open, you never know what's round the corner...
(, Tue 12 Mar 2013, 19:50, closed)
Look at it as a bonus
if I suddenly ended up single and decided that I was going to "get back on the horse" then I'd never have to worry about contraception ever again - riding bareback forever more.
At my age (40) I'm not looking to sire a new philly and sew my wild oats.

don't be tiresome. there's a love.

To be fair, being married to your wife would minimise any risk of unwanted pregnancies. Well, hers anyway.
(, Tue 12 Mar 2013, 19:52, closed)
Shut up you fucking idiot.

I'd like to hear more of your views on progressive modern life

(, Mon 11 Mar 2013, 9:42, closed)
Ok.
What if your wife admits to taking your speeding points for you and you never get to see your kids from that marriage again? what if you want to start afresh with a new family, except you can't because she also convinced you to have the snip?
(, Tue 12 Mar 2013, 19:46, closed)
I'd just like to echo all the previous replies.
Whilst not exactly pleasant, a vasectomy is not that big of a deal (childbirth is probably worse), is safer than the equivalent procedure for women, and removes the need to worry about other forms of contraception*.
That said, it's only really appropriate for those in a stable relationships who can be certain that they don't want any more kids.

*when you have young children, all sex is of the hurried kind

Just surprised at quite what proportion of them. I'm guessing this site is not representative of people at large.
