# 'I like this' button - what it's all about?
* You can vote on stuff you think is good

* This creates a most popular page - hopefully you'll find this interesting

* Mods can then check from this page for pics for the FP, allowing them to take a lunchbreak occasionally.

* We're not going to automatically approve stuff just because it's voted high, because A: we don't want in-jokes on the front page. B: Many images that are highly rated will be the wrong shape and C: The mods approve for humour rather than technique

* Mods will still FP stuff that's right for b3ta, regardless of votes. This system simply allows mods to see stuff that they might have missed.

* New thread reposts are now redundant. By posting an image on the board and if the community rates it, it WILL be seen by a mod. Spread the word!

* There's no 'this is bad' button as well, we don't really need one. Bad stuff will get no (or few) votes and won't appear on the popular page.

* big woos to Robtoo for coding this up, and Tomsk & Mike for their many useful suggestions

# yeah - we debated this
and reckoned
* it would make the page messy
* being able to vote on EVERY LAST THING would be too much choice and disencourage people from voting
* There's not many FPs from within threads. (Yes there are some)
(, Mon 21 Nov 2005, 15:29, archived)
# People should be encouraged to post only reposts within threads
If an image has already been posted once before in a thread of it's own, it'll get voted on, listed in the Popular bit, and eligible to be FP'd along with everything else.

With luck this might conceivably reduce the number of reposts, who knows?
(, Mon 21 Nov 2005, 15:34, archived)

I had this thought the other day, but assumed it wouldnt work as everyoneone would vote 10 zillion times every time Jolly Jack posted anything haha.

But if it is still going to be reviewed, then I think it's a good idea.
(, Mon 21 Nov 2005, 15:27, archived)
# perhaps a further button
"I am a sycophant", we could have buttons for all possibilities!

It's a good idea - I assume there'll be a link so we can see the current most popular? That would save a lot of spazzing time.

edit/haha! The entire board is popular right now!

# Good idea
or, alternatively, have a seperate page just for them called, i don't know, "The B3ta Huge-Humus regulars Page" or something.

Then the rest of us losers might have a slim chance at getting out low-hummus imagineerings on the FP.

# does it take into account how many people are logged in at the time?
i.e. if there's only 50 people viewing the board late at night and something get's 50 votes, then the pic must be great. But it won't get the same kudos as something else that only 5% of the dayshifters like.

# I don't know if you're right...
Yes, there's less people at night
But as the board moves much slower there's a longer time to vote
Maybe it equals up anyway?
