This is a normal post Fascinating stuff
I think your first link might be a bit off but it might just be my temperamental iPad.

I love how scientists and historians are always thrown when something exists that counters their nice simple view that man has always advanced in a steady rising curve and never fallen back into the dark ages occasionally, I think we forget we used to live lives completely separate from one another, small islands of civilisation that never affected others outside of their walls, nor were recorded in any kind of lasting records. For all we know some one had a bloody space program back when this was made and time completely erased it from our modern eyes.

I guess we'll never know exactly why someone needed something so frighteningly accurate!?

This is a normal post Im my limited experience most scientists love finding out something new
and are very aware of the peaks and troughs of human intellectual growth.

The renaissance was pretty much started by reading old manuscripts that were stored in islamic libraries kept safe from the christian dogma.

'the ink of the scholar is more sacred than the blood of the martyr' as some bloke once said.

As a species we've come very close to extinction at times.
70,000 years ago it's though that when the Toba supervolcano went tits up the environmental change reduced human numbers dropped down to around 15,000.

There's also old maps of the antarctic that show the the land mass under the ice which were copied from earlier maps that have not survived.
(, Thu 10 May 2012, 8:48, , Reply)
This is a normal post You know I can't help but feel that although we live in really rather wonderful times right now for discovery and technical advancements
We also are stil quite socially and psychologically held back thanks to the continuing influence of judao/Christian dogma and muslamic ray guns, the biggest barriers to world wide happiness and war free days being this whole concept of sin and pleasurable indulgences being shameful, and in particular that those that do such things more so than ourselves deserve some kind of harsh intervention or punishment, not to mention this clueless concept that using scientific knowledge to advance us further into the role of being our own gods/masters and attempting never to have to let 'acts of god' control our destiny is somehow the very worst sin of all. We REALLY need to get rid of that shit for good someday.

Happily what with the internets n global communications n all, I think it can't be too long before we all start pulling together and learning the true nature of man and the right balance between work and play, sans politics, sin, n dogma.

Feckin hope so anyway...
(, Thu 10 May 2012, 9:26, , Reply)
This is a normal post For me religion is a symptom of the nature of the human mind.
We crave answers to questions and sometimes those answers arn't available yet.

I'ld be more worried if when people looked up at the accent night sky and saw the vast majesty of the universe didn't try and fill in the gaps.
Newton and Darwin were religeous and Einstein was an agnostic, and criticised atheism.
Religion is Lorem ipsum for the soul.

This is a normal post There's also shit-loads of lost knowledge that's being rediscovered
Events like the fire in the Great Library at Alexandria or the catastrophic collapse of civilizations like Crete or the Mayans means we're often having to make assumptions based on the evidence available.

When new evidence turns up like this mechanism it gets studied very carefully and the assumptions will be re-assessed. Saying that historians are thrown by something they didn't know is a bit ridiculous as how could they possibly know?
(, Thu 10 May 2012, 9:27, , Reply)
This is a normal post Indeed, the trick is not to leap to 'chariots of the gods' level on asumptions every time you find something unexpected.

This is a normal post Ha ha, true true
but we do still seem to generally have this silly idea that mans advancement into the modern era of technical wonders was a slow and steady rise, from living like animals thru to stone tools, metals, mechanics, electronics, but anything older than a few thousand years and often pretty much nothing continues to exist for us to see or measure in any form, it's just gone, and yet if you took any child from back then and raised it as one of us it would almost certainly be capable of understanding and coping with our modern world quite normally, so there's every possibility we've been here before, not to this present global scale, but when scientists say stuff like 'Clocks were invented on this exact date by this man and computers on this exact date by this bloke here!' it does seem a bit, well, over simplified, like we're rewriting history to suit us.
(, Thu 10 May 2012, 9:40, , Reply)
This is a normal post So you're saying it's likely that...
The Atlantians were a highly advanced civilisation, who potentially had advanced technology and an active space programme. But a war began. A war between the Atlantians and a less civilised race of humans, almost neandathals, who possessed none of their tech and were jealous. The war raged for hundreds of years and it seemed like no end was in sight. So the Atlantians, in their infinite wisdom, built spacecrafts capable of interstellar flight and fled the Earth to colonise a better world, but not before destroying all traces of their knowledge and technology by sinking their fair city into the ocean, so the jealous neanderthal race could not use their technology to advance themselves quick enough to follow them?

...technically, you can't orally overdose on acid. An effective dose is an effective dose. Whether it's 3 or 30 tabs, it makes no difference. So if he isn't bullshitting, it's not anything special. Just wasteful and a it dim.

Technically anyway...

That's actually quite interesting. So it's a case of 'saturation' and that's yer lot, then?

Edit: you're talking about the 'lethal' dose, aren't you?

I stand by my original comment.
(, Wed 9 May 2012, 23:36, , Reply)
This is a normal post No.
It's pretty much impossile to die from ingesting LSD. I think there's one documented case of a guy who injected a hell of a lot of it and died but you could say the same for, I dunno, honey or some such.

I meant 'effective' as in the dose needed to experience psychedelic effects. I think it's somewhere between 25 - 100 micrograms. Anything more is a waste and more of it doesn't mean a more intense/longer experience. Although tolerance is built up very quickly, so larger doses would be needed over time for frequent and regular users to be able to attain a trip.

I hear the difference and although have recorded a little, I wasn't pulling the strings and don't understand crap about mastering. In my head, I always thought a song had better "production value" but maybe the specifics are mastering.

But it also sounds like more than engineering: ie. adding additional backup vocals.

Do you think Litt's just made better choices, or is it something done on the board?

I dunno man, like I said, it's more of a curio than 'x was better than y!' etc..

I would say though, that even though Litt's decisions were warranted, don't Albini's mixes sound more 'human', and isn't that kinda what Kurt wanted when he commissioned him as an engineer?

This is a normal post Maybe
Although I've heard One Republic's original "Apologize" and must admit to liking Timbaland/Timberlake (whoever)'s version much better. Helped them to move stuff around and reach a needed sound. That's why the Mutt Langes, Rick Rubins of the world get the jobs because they take the artist and help them realize their art.

OK, I suppose Ross Robinson's (for example) treatment of At the Drive-In's 'Relationship of Command' made them the touchstone they are now, not to mention the acclaim that the Cure's 2004 self-titled album which got them out of the 'Bloodflowers' laizez-faire attitude they had. A question of perspective, I suppose.

However, I do stand by the - I dunno - 'ethos' of recording a band as human and live and having buzzing amps six feet away from your face. As opposed to a 'slick' version, y'know?

If you go around being a tool you're letting whoever hurt you win. Let those facial tattoos represent something you've overcome rather than something you are. It's an image of hate.

also, if you're not looking for positive responses from us, why are you here? have you nothing better to do? have positive interactions become so infrequent that this is the only way you can be made to feel relevant/alive? pissing people off is not the way my friend.

This is a normal post The talk board is where you go
for chat, though I'd probably advise using other sites if you want a more serious opinion.

Certainly, if you want to discuss mental health issues, then you are probably best looking at forums which have been set up for that very discussion and might actually be able to give you useful information (as opposed to a comedy site).

The problem with anyone posting too many links to their own blog is that it quickly pushes off other member's work.

The site's FAQ is here if you want to read it.

My daughter does much more than me, she finds really interesting stuff and shows me but I am busy building my site right now so haven't got much time. This is a normal post ok
but seriously, assuming you're not looking to annoy people, you do need to make an attempt to fit in with the existing culture of any social environment, that's why i recommended you lurk for a bit. you'll notice that people posting to their own blogs without it containing something pretty spectacular (far more spectacular than i could ever create) will be flamed. we have some fantastic and pretty much famous bloggers who frequent this board and even they rarely post their own work for fear of coming across as a hit mining spammer. it's simply not done.

by all means, find some loltacular material off of the interwebs and post it here, that would be far more suitable.

as a rule of thumb, posting stuff of your own needs to have measurable artistic merit of some degree, not just a videoblog or text.

it's a great board here if you are sensitive to how it operates and contribute on an equal level. anyway, sorry for being a douchebag hypocrite again and I'm glad you're feeling good at the moment.

I don't usually post negative stuff. I avoid confrontation like the plague.

But, given your (and your alter ego's) form over the last week, I hope you get some sort of masochistic pleasure in me saying:

Seriously? Fuck off mate. I'm serious. Fuck off. You aren't trolling anyone, you're just manifesting yourself as a seriously needy fuckwit. If I wanted that I'd go to 4chan. So, I think I speak for most people here when I say that I don't hate you, I pity you. I think you should have a little word with yourself, maybe wash your face, and rejoin the real world where most of us live. A world where most of us actually get on with things and don't actually do too badly out of it. I used to think I could be - I dunno - an 'iconoclast'. But there again, most of us did at some point. It usually disappears at the tail end of adolescence. Some of us continue on an infantile bent. I am not a doctor, but I believe you are one of those blinkered unfortunates.

My two cents/pence:

You're sitting in a living room with a mate. You remember that thing you saw on TV and dig it out. You stick it on because you're both a bit pissed and it makes you happy when your mate laughs. That's what this place is. It's a Friday night after the pub, not a Wednesday morning kind of place. Watch some stuff. Have a giggle. Make a comment or two. You don't have to talk about yourself or your problems, no matter how much they might concern you. We've all got some issue, and coming here generally files it away for another time. Have a lurk. Watch a vid. If you need people to see what you've done, use your blog as a sig so people can make their own call on whether or not to go.

That's my opinion anyway. Right. I'm off to pick some fucking flowers.
