Well, its kind of undeniable that the Ukranians don't want to be annexed
And that the Russians are the ones pouring petrol on the fire repeatedly. But you're right this isn't exactly a balanced "article"

The trouble is, to really get behind the current coverage of everything out there,
I'd have to forget that Ukraine a few months ago had a legitimately elected govt with fairly wide popularity until the trouble started, and their new leaders are a rather right-wing bunch who took over by force in a coup (and we still don't know who organised/funded it, it was all very fast and "neat"). So I'm staying on the fence on this one...

Bollocks. The many Ukrainians of Russian ethnicity are well up for it, this idea that it's all external Russian influence stirring up strife is being massively exaggerated.
( , Wed 23 Apr 2014, 13:18, Share, Reply)
And the EU and America haven't poured any petrol onto the fire themselves?
The problem with that 'popular' revolution they had in Kiev is that it was basically ethnic, which given it violently overthrew an elected government meant it instantly alienated a huge chunk of the Ukrainian population, who are naturally going to seek protection from Russia. This is what can happen when you flirt with fascist thugs at the ballot box, and then in an armed uprising, like the Ukrainians did in a country so starkly divided on the grounds of ethnicity.

Not the best writen article but its been reported on other networks too.
Journalists have been kidnapped and beaten in Crimea so I would not be surprised if the same happens here.
Putins using propaganda big time to stir things up and create a cover for invasion. So journalists going round reporting off message are going to get squashed.

I managed to talk to the other day to my friends who live in Crimea. They were born from Russian families caught up in the boarder transfer between Russia and the Ukraine and they were telling me about the appalling treatment that Russian families got from the Ukrainians during this period and that the racial issues are still there today and how at the time they had their nationalities stripped and other ones forced upon them... It was a bit confusing to listen to as the line kept on being cut off, but its a different side to the story of whats going on. Hopefully I can speak to them again this week as they are trying to get to somewhere safer.

Also, you might want to read something a bit more neutral, such as this report from the UN; www.ohchr.org/Documents/Countries/UA/Ukraine_Report_15April2014.doc
Eg. "In eastern Ukraine, where a large ethnic Russian minority resides, the situation remains particularly tense with ethnic Russians fearing that the central Government does not represent their interests. Although there were some attacks against the ethnic Russian community, these were neither systematic nor widespread. There are also numerous allegations that some participants in the protests and in the clashes of the politically opposing groups, which have already taken at least four lives, are not from the region and that some have come from the Russian Federation."
Otherwise it all sounds like the Crimean version of UKIP (UK families forced to accept the laws of Brussels ...)

Just look through the board, see what is being posted and how well it is received.

( , Wed 23 Apr 2014, 9:05, Share, Reply)
I know that, and I do respect that.
I'm just personally not interested in seeing a thousand variations of the exact same on every damn "social/interactive" site.
I like a site that has a wide spectrum. Links to videos that already been posted 10 times on Facebook BUT also original content that people make just for creative outlet.
And i don't think it's "me, me, me" when I'm trying out the waters a bit to see if anyone would be interested in doing a collaboration video.
Aaaaand, finally, I actually have a lot more respect for people shitting on someones work if they've posted something themselves vs someone who hasn't. That's just my personal feeling about it.
And I know one of the guy here have uploaded music vids etc. I saw the one where he walked around for 4 minutes - but it was his music also - I could never make music. So I'll take his shit a bit more serious than just haters who don't produce own stuff.
But if you're suggesting that I should watch what's best received and try to be a crowd-pleaser and just post stuff that I think other people would like - even though I don't. :D That's not gonna happen.
If this is a site that only strives for conformity then I'll have fun trying my own thing until I get banned (which I hope I won't be) or until everyone have ignored me. But I'm not gonna start linking "Farage" or "Burley" vids just to be part of the cool sarcastic hipster-club.
( , Wed 23 Apr 2014, 9:21, Share, Reply)
Ha!
No, there's no "Fuck you" in there.
And it's more that I won't try to be Justin Beiber even though he is very popular. When it comes to creative stuff I need to like it myself - and if that's not what others like - I lose - but I'm still not gonna try to be Justin Beiber.
And I'm actually very open to anything constructive.
People saying that my stuff is shit etc. is however NOT constructive.
To each their own though!

There's a big difference between observing the board and judging the mood/what people like
and just being a crowd pleaser
If the community appears to favour short clips of news, internet nonsense and interesting art then posting 14 hour long, self made documentaries on flower arranging is unlikely to go down well.

Well, if 2 people would like my 14 hour long, self made documentary about flower arranging - why is that such a bad thing?
It's kinda easy to skip for people not interested and if everything is gonna be "top-list" material and "odd" stuff frowned upon - it's gonna end up just being Justin Beiber or grumpy cat.
( , Wed 23 Apr 2014, 10:07, Share, Reply)
except B3ta isn't just Justin Bieber and Grumpy cat is it :)
it's evolution, if something isn't working move on to something else. Or if you're certain what you have is gold but you're not getting the response then perhaps the audience is wrong and you need to find like minded folk.
Alternatively carry on regardless, post what you like, quite often with time and effort people do get accepted :)

Well, I experiment a lot in my opinion.
I don't think I'm trying the same over and over again - and this was also a test to see if anyone wanted to be part of a collaboration.
And I didn't mean that b3ta was only that - It was just examples for what gets the most "hits" and goes viral in general.
But sure, I'm patient and I'm not to worried about haters but if it becomes apparent that I'm just really at the wrong place and it's not gonna change - I won't stay here just to be a douche - but give me some more time to try the place out at least.

I think the strength of the site is things people have made themselves. You don't want people fearing that what they have done is going to be unpopular and so not post it. The worst an unpopular post should get is no comments.
Aim for funny or interesting, and use the reactions to help you direct your work toward that (and comment on other people's work you like to encourage them).
If someone finds someone else boring, there's always the ignore button.

I think the problem here is that in your short time here you have posted a lot of this type of stuff and it seems the majority here don't want the links section swamped with somebody's 'ideas'. It's a nice idea to try and get people to collaborate but that might be better done by finding someone you want to collaborate with and sending a personal message or 'gaz' as it's called here. B3tans are a fickle bunch. I posted a song a while back which was very well received and made the popular page (which took my youtube views from 7 to 550 in one day) my subsequent songs however were met with near silence and I was careful to only post anything i made once a month at most. Maybe this isn't the site for you as I think most people on here just want to be entertained and have a bit of banter (i haven't been on here that long - relatively speaking - but i may assume from some comments i have read that it used to be a more accessible place for creative types than it is now). You are broadcasting to the internet generation who are probably only a couple of years away from considering vine clips to be too long...
( , Wed 23 Apr 2014, 11:35, Share, Reply)
This, in spades
B3ta is not at it's best when it's treated as a dumping ground for peoples ideas. Even good stuff can become repetitive when it's posted day after day.
Plus you (Dukeb) have been posting vlog type posts which can endlessly fill up youtube but Links tends to only have room for so much content a day and therefore negativity is to be expected.
i say this a someone who doesn't create original content here, mainly because i don't feel up to the Links standard. (no doubt i could make a hundred shitty vines or film myself having a shit for liveleak never mind blathing on about my life on youtube)

on a much bigger fallen tree, my brother was doing a similar thing.
when the tree kicked up, it ripped open his leg from shin to thigh, destroying his knee and severing his femoral artery. he lost 2 litres of blood in the time it took for him to take off his belt and tourniquet it. he then had to stay conscius for half an hour on his cell phone until the rescue party located him

I quote:
"Performance artist Milo Moiré creates abstract paintings by pushing eggs filled with paint and ink out of her vaginal canal. She does this while standing naked in front of an audience. The nudity, apparently, is artistically essential. As for the act of pushing paint-filled eggs out of her body, it is – as no doubt you perceive – a powerful feminist statement about women, fertility and creativity."
