Random Burn 2009

Right okay so I'm sure you all know the deal by now. You sign up, I'll give you five B3tan's addresses for you to send compilation cds to.

There are a couple of rules:

a) the compilations MUST be a random collection of songs, so stick your music deely on shuffle or randomise or whatever and choose the first 18 tracks it throws up.

b) you can have up to three song substitutions and two same artist swaps.

c) if you sign up, PLEASE make sure you actually take part. I can’t cope with disappointed B3tans or angry B3tans gazzing me constantly asking where the hell their cds are. If I have to deal with loads of these, there’ll be hell to pay.

d) the date to get them posted off by is 18th May. You have absolutely no excuse to be a lazy shitbag about this. You've got tonnes of time.

Start thinking about making your cds soonish. I'm giving you a long time til they have to be sent.

Please GAZ me your name and address by 4 May.

Good luck and enjoy and if you want to send me a copy of your cd, GAZ me for my address.

If I've had your address in the past for a random burn, don't assume I've kept it. I am notorious for losing stuff

NO!

Posting CD's ..

and revealing addresses?

if only there was some way of getting the music onto a computer in a compressed format ... why, then all we would need is some sort of globally intercconnected network ... and a way of transferring the files ..

/me dreams ...

Shut up and appreciate the beauty of this system.

We can put trinkets in and send eachother handwritten love notes. :D

Mine are always ace by the way.

I love receiving more than just 5. Some of them ones I got last year were mega (Flapjack, I'm looking in your direction).

Perhaps there could be a film version later in the year too? Y'know, burn off say, 3 Movies per envelope and send to 3 peeps each? Could throw up some great stuff...

I'm massively looking forward to this

My compilation will be...interesting.

(, Mon 30 Mar 2009, 13:32, Reply)
This should be interesting... Why not?

(, Mon 30 Mar 2009, 23:52, Reply)
Yes please

Although I did it last year and it took me 3 weeks or so to get them sorted after the date, and for that I am sorry - only a twat wouldn't be able to sort it with 7 weeks notice.

So yes indeedy, and I promise to be less wanky this time.

(, Tue 31 Mar 2009, 7:16, Reply)
Yep

I'm in.
Was very exciting last year.

(, Tue 31 Mar 2009, 14:34, Reply)
I got 2 cd's last year.

Don't let me down b3ta.

(, Sun 5 Apr 2009, 18:44, Reply)
Same here

but I won't lose faith based on one episode.

I think what peeved me the most was I got no response from 3 of the 5 who received my CDs.

*Thinks*
They must have been shite.

A request, please would people put tracklistings in their CDs? kthx
Edit: Please spam this on /board
Edit2: I will spam it

(, Sun 5 Apr 2009, 21:46, Reply)
Missed this last time

I'm in this year.

(, Sun 5 Apr 2009, 22:09, Reply)
I hope you like

Stan Rogers and Gilbert & Sullivan.

(, Wed 8 Apr 2009, 15:06, Reply)
I will do this as long as I get more than one CD that works and one blank CD

(, Wed 8 Apr 2009, 20:39, Reply)
Maybe the person who sent you the blank CD doesn't like musics

(, Thu 9 Apr 2009, 21:08, Reply)
There was a tracklist

(, Mon 13 Apr 2009, 19:50, Reply)
This

made me laugh. There are so many tones of voice it can be read in - disgusted, plaintive, frosty, disappointed - and they're all funny.

(, Tue 19 May 2009, 7:21, Reply)
Yes!!

This was great last year, I got all my CDs and sent all of mine out.

(, Fri 10 Apr 2009, 22:34, Reply)
Ah well,

might as well. I've met half you fuckers by now anyway.

However:
you can have up to three song substitutions and two same artist swaps.

I think I can figure out what a song substitution is, but what's the definition of a "same artist swap"?

... also, are you supposed to make the same CD five times, or have five different randomly chosen tracklistings? If you're going to wave rules at people, at least make them clear and unambiguous.

(, Fri 10 Apr 2009, 22:41, Reply)
I presume it means out of the three substitutions you can't have all three by the same artist.

Only two.
Also I believe the point is to burn the CD five times.

I really need to sort my library out now because I use a mystical system called folders, so at the moment my shuffle just finds everything including the mp3s of 6 minutes of atmosphere from inside a chinese train station.

(, Fri 10 Apr 2009, 23:22, Reply)
I'm signing up just in the hope that I get that track

(, Wed 15 Apr 2009, 10:11, Reply)
Song substitutions:

Maybe there's your mates band who you want to showcase.

Artist swaps: On mine last year my music player threw up three Smiths songs on the same playlist. Now I could've kept them but decided to swap two of them for the next two random songs.

If this doesn't make sense, I'm sure someone who has a better grasp of the English language can tell you

(, Tue 14 Apr 2009, 11:04, Reply)
Ah, OK. Thank you, that makes sense.

(, Fri 17 Apr 2009, 21:40, Reply)
Awesome! *Signs up*

As a Summer Burn veteran I will be sure to send out my CDs in the promptest of manners. I have already burnt and labelled them all in just this afternoon!

(, Mon 13 Apr 2009, 14:46, Reply)
I haven't even bought any cds to burn my stuff onto yet!

I bet you hope you're on my list :)

(, Mon 20 Apr 2009, 11:37, Reply)
hell yeah

(, Fri 17 Apr 2009, 23:19, Reply)
My playlist is too big for the CD.

What do I do?

(, Sat 18 Apr 2009, 21:36, Reply)
Read "18"

as "however many it takes to fill a CD"

(, Tue 21 Apr 2009, 21:33, Reply)
:D

(, Sat 25 Apr 2009, 23:35, Reply)
I'll give it another go

last year I went to the trouble of buying Lightscribe disks and designing an awesome cover and spent a fortune posting them off

but I only received one disk (plus one from someone who wasn't on my list) - the people who failed me were A-list /talk members too.

Bad show - so I'm hoping this year will be better

(, Mon 27 Apr 2009, 16:10, Reply)
I'm going to name and shame

those who don't play properly.

(, Mon 27 Apr 2009, 18:38, Reply)
My peoples

All people on my random burn list should expect their cd's/mystery gifts by May 31st :), just need to wait till I get paid to send them out, the awesome music is already on the cd's :)

(, Thu 21 May 2009, 11:30, Reply)
I sent my disks out on the 18th

Nothing flash. None received back.
I hope those who received them have not been put off by the experience.

I've sent 4 and there's one more to go out after the bank holiday

Received two so far. This is fun!

(, Sat 23 May 2009, 9:20, Reply)
I've sent all 5 of mine over a week ago.

Absolutely nothing whatsoever has turned up at mine yet.

(, Tue 26 May 2009, 16:02, Reply)
You're not one of mine

I've heard from exactly one of mine to say thankyou, and I've still only received two. Poor show internet people! I know you've got until June, but I desire immediate gratification!

(, Wed 27 May 2009, 17:17, Reply)
I've now had one thankyou,

and still nothing to listen to.

:(

(, Fri 29 May 2009, 11:44, Reply)
Poor show

Sent 6*, received 2.

It's really nice receiving CDs, which was why I signed up, so I could share the love. But I'm quite disheartened now. How many people have received RB2009 CDs but sent none?

*1 for our lovely host.

(, Wed 17 Jun 2009, 13:50, Reply)
I've received an anonymous CD today

with Edith Piaf and Jimmie Rogers and an itunes printed tracklist. Thank you to whoever sent it! :)

(, Wed 27 May 2009, 13:28, Reply)
Thank you

to the guy in Country Durham* who sent me a nonny mouse CD yesterday.

I don't know your B3taname, coz you didn't include it with the CD.

Anyways, thanks :)

* I assume County Durham, that's what it said after I peeled back the first address label.
